UAB and Mike Anderson - Don’t believe for a second that Mike Anderson’s conract enhancements have anything to do with “increased ticket sales, TV appearances, etc, etc.” Those increases were given to him without a way to really generate the extra cash. All of his enhancements (and for that matter the funding for the UAB athletic department) are taken care of through two sources – The UAB Educational Foundation and the UAB President’s discretionary account. Sure they generate some $$ throught ticket sales, sponsorships, gifts, etc, but that makes up less than 30% of their total revenue. And UAB fans can yap all he want about the Board of Trustees, but they are living in fantasy land if they don’t believe they would shutter UAB Atheltics given one slim opportunity. As for their support system, if you don’t believe it, I can give you the name and number of the guy who signs the checks.
Lutz and a Buyout clause - Lutz has a buyout clause and it is in effect. It is sizeable and would make any school think long and hard. Could that change in the future, sure. But in this instance, your “facts” are getting out of whack!
Lutz and “Questionable Recruiting tactics” - Heard it all before. NCSU fans claimed we bought Marcus Campbell. Apparently they forgot he went to Mississippi State. Some say we bought Martin Iti. Could be everyone else got scared of his multiple stop HS career. Lutz plays within the rules. Everyone thinks everyone cheats when their prize heads elsewhere. I still think Carolina broke the rules for Jason Parker (scheduled meetings with former NBA stars), but that’s life.

Before we do that, let’s look over the numbers.
UAB gets approx $260,000 a year per year for the next 6 years from our Sweet 16 run last year and other CUSA credits. Since we’ve operated without those credits it makes sense to just add that to the coaches’ salary.
UAB’s average attendance has increased by 50% in the three seasons that Coach Anderson has been there. Result: more money
Donations made to the athletic department via the Blazer Club has increased in leaps and bounds since the arrival of Coach Anderson. Result: more money
UAB also has financial backing from several big donors and corporations in the Bham area to help pay for Coach Anderson’s salary: Result: more money
UAB also has a large booster that is a former coach and won a national title. Result: more money
UAB men’s basketball TV games have increased as well. Result: more money
The money is there and its not from some BS sources like you claim. Remember, Coach Anderson’s contract had to be approved by the UA BOT and there is no way in hell they would allow money to come from other sources. They keep an eye on everything we do, especially in regards to athletics and would denounce their love for Bear Bryant before they ever let UAB athletics cut corners to get extra money for a basketball coach.
