Eric Whitehurst - 2007 PF JUCO

http://charlotte.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=580795

6’9, 210 lbs. PF

Apparently we’re (Marquette and UNLV as well) going to take a look at him. Top 100 out of HS, signed with Jeff Capel at VCU, and backed out and went to JUCO when Capel left. That doesn’t make sense though, because they say he is starting his So. JUCO season, and Capel is only just this fall starting at Oklahoma.

I am thinking they meant that he signed with VCU out of high school, probably didn’t qualify and went JUCO, and has lost interest in VCU now that Capel is gone. Well, whatever the case, he is probably a pretty good kid (since he is from my home town).

Will visit Marquette(?) this weekend.

There is a new article up on Rivals by JJ. Sounds good for him right now if we can hold off a late push by Gtown.

Sounds like he enjoyed the visit!

here are some of his game recaps from last season…

woo-hoo!

Great news. Another talented big man for 2007. Top 120, class of 2005. Had committed to ODU but went JUCO after Capel left. Very good student, actually.

From his recruitment coming out of high school:

“Eric’s recruitment has picked up as of late,” said Oaktree head coach Ryan Pauling. "Clemson and West Virginia have been to some games recently. And Wake Forest and South Carolina have been calling. We are going to the Wake Forest and Duke game tonight.

“Then we will go to the VCU game on Saturday. I still think VCU is the leader because they have been recruiting him so long and done such a good job.”

Now a full academic qualifier, Whitehurst is averaging 20 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks per game. But he is doing much more for Oaktree Academy (17-7) than put up stats.

“More than the scoring and rebounding, I think what Eric has done the best this year is lead us both on and off the court,” said Pauling. “He practices hard everyday and pushes his teammates to get better.”

Too cool. If Wilderness re-commits, that means just one to give for '07.

PG, PG, PG.

Welcome aboard, Eric.

I was wondering how this would effect Sanchez, if he reclassifies that would work out really well if we could land him.

I can’t remember the last time being so excited about getting a JUCO big man…we really needed to get Whitehurst for next year.

He sounds alot like Drayton did coming out of JC with his frame and playing style, etc.

Good that he’s 6’9’’. Our only length so far for next year is Jones, Phaler, Whitehurst, and Gaby.

Welcome, Eric.

Great Quote from Whitehurst:

“I’m ready to be there already, like right now wearing that green,” Whitehurst said. “I’m coming in to do whatever they need me to do. I score if they need that. I dribble if they need that. Rebound… Man if they need me to be the waterboy, I’ll do that. It’s whatever with me, as long as I am there.”

These are the kind of kids you love to have on board.

Isn’t that almost exactly what Beasley said?

Who shot who in the what, now?

AWESOME quote.

Very, very cool. I was holding out hope that we could get him. He looks like he could potentially be a VERY good player for the Niners.

:biggrin::thumbsup::cool:

I like this kid’s attitude. Welcome to Niner Nation Eric!

EDIT: So how many years of eligibilty will he have?
