Where is music leading the way then?
Kendrick and Drake?

A lot of the songs that are glorified from the past were totally misunderstood. For instance âFor What itâs Worthâ had nothing to do with Vietnam. It just became a protest anthem. Dylan didnât have a political bone in his body according to a documentary I saw on him. It was actually a little disappointing.
Truthfully I canât really speak on todays music unless its country. I couldnât name one Drake song if you held a gun to my head.
Also, itâs hard to take a guy serious talking about money grubbing corporations when he sold his music to one for 300 mill.
Havenât seen it yet. Got me to thinking about Dylanâs encounter with poet Carl Sandburg at the latterâs western NC home in 1964 and whether thatâs depicted in the movie.
Definitely correct that Dylan eschewed American partisan politics but labeling him as an apostate - as some have - is a head scratcher considering what a simple search pulls up, not to mention all the books etc about his songwriting.
And while true that Stephen Stillâs âFor What Itâs Worthâ is not about the Vietnam War, it is certainly anti-establishment.
Anyway, canât speak for Drake or any other Canadian for that matter but Kendrick Lamar doesnât pull any punches in his lyrics and hasnât for years. His most pointed lyrics about DJT were penned during the first administration.
This was pretty freaking great. Theyâre all having such a good time.
Did not know that Frampton has a rare muscle autoimmune disease called IBM. Thatâs why he is sitting down. Been battling it since 2015 per the googles. Still plays and tours though.
This is the kind of thing Iâm talking about. SXSW used to be huge for the music industry - launching the careers of quite a few bands of the moment.
Now, completely gone.
They used to do a top songs / bands list and I looked forward to it every year to catch the bands / solo performers / songs I had missed on my own. It had grown more diverse over the years, which I enjoyed. I still have a ton of them from festivals past on my Spotify playlist.
Initial THR piece was incorrect about the musical future of SXSW:
Seems to be a lot of bands parting with longtime members recently:
I donât listen to them much anymore, but damn if this isnât as good as the poster says:

The Oooooh crescendo with the guitars near the end (@3:57) is transcendent. Takes me places.
