Ex-Florida Damontre Harris

Florida announced that 6’10, Jr. Center, Damontre Harris will not be returning next season.

He played at South Carolina from 2011-2013. He was a member of the All-SEC Defensive team during the 2011-12 season, averaging 2.3 blocks a game.

After the 2013 year, he transferred to florida and sat out due to NCAA rules. He did not play at all last year due to Billy Donovan Suspending him because of off court issues: not answering phone calls, not showing up to meetings, etc.

Damontre Harris is from Fayetteville, NC and he played high school ball with our current center, Mike Thorne, at Trinity Christian. Being from Florida, he’s also an ex-teammate of current guard, Braxton Ogbueze.

Harris obviously has some issues, but I feel that being around former teammates as well as being a lot closer to home can help him overcome those issues.

We need help in the post and he is a proven shot blocker, so I feel that we should take a shot at him. The only downfall, is that he will only have one season of eligibility left after the 2014-2015 season. Any thoughts?

At this point…if Charles Manson had that size and a year of eligibility left we should consider it. Where our program is at now…we unfortunately need to take risks and chances on players no one else normally would.

I don’t like it…but it’s where we are.

IMO.

How was he allowed to transfer within the SEC? That’s usually rare to see a change within conference.

Don’t think we’ll bring him in, but it wouldn’t shock me either.

we need to bring in a fifth year transfer. the player doesn’t have to be great but just needs to give us some depth. we have got to be able to land someone. there is literally no downside to bringing one of these players in.

There’s down side.

Harris would not be a kid that can play immediately unless he gets a waiver.

i didnt mean this kid. i know he cannot play immediately.

So we would probably have to give him 2 years on scholarship in order to get 1 year on the court. I don’t see him being worth that.

I imagine he is packing his bags for international play. Clearly he is not college material.

Manson needs to grow about 24", and has a few years yet to sit out. Nevertheless, he still has a following of rabid fans.
