Apologies if this has already been posted. The Kannapolis paper has an article today about it. I think this is a big deal and says everything about how our dept is manageing resources.
Congrats, they treat underwater basket weaving the same as our revenue sports. Good job.
Stuff like this is an absolute joke when viewed in the light of the results of basketball and football. No one cares how well you manage resources for cross country and softball outside of a very small group of supporters.
Yes the “whole department” is doing well. Except for the only two sports that matter to any outsider of course. Then they win an award for this type performqnce. It’s almost like it’s by design!
This is Judy Rose level bragging. We won a bunch of conference championships in sports no one cares about and we didn’t raise much money. Go us!
Now why did I know someone would post this? We won the award. It is what it is.
clt gets your point, but softball has gained more $ after getting bigly good
agree we need mbb and fb need to deliver
Man, why can’t anyone be happy, even for just a moment. I believe it is great we were ranked number 1 across every D1 university. It’s good publicity.
People need to chill out and get off the bashing wagon of vitriol towards anything positive.
Just one man’s opinion.
I dont blame them for bragging but this is essentially meaningless until football and hoops win. Im happy regardless.Fundraising has actually been good but there are 2 sports that ultimately matter, i mean, 1 really but sort of 2.
Some people on here have said that due to the NIL and how ridiculous the major sports are now that they would no longer give money except to the non revenue sports. I haven’t reached that point, but I don’t see the need to bash the minor sports just because MBB and football are underperforming. Call it bragging if you like, but I like seeing softball, baseball, soccer, etc do well.
Make that TWO MEN’S opinions!
I think we all know which sports matter the most. In fact, the non-revenue sports would do even better if those two ever figured it out.
This is great for the AD. The revenue sports should have been better because we did hire the top assistant in the country in MBB. He turned out to be a dud. Since Judy left we moved back to a conference with some of our peers, and we are expanding the football stadium amongst other upgrades across all the programs. Give them a break as the department is trying to make up for decades of moving in the wrong direction. Charlotte athletics are vastly improving believe it or not and this award shows it.
Yes, definitely want to see men’s hoops and football riding high, but pretty sure our chances of ever winning the more well known Learfield Directors’ Cup are slim to none.
BTW, the irony of getting an award from Texas A&M’s College Sports Lab for athletic excellence while practicing fiscal efficiency isn’t lost on me!
Angry fans are weird to me. Like what are you a fan of if you hate everything about the thing you “root” for haha?
Any time we are ranked ahead of UNC and NC State, I will celebrate that.
Do I want men’s basketball to dance and football to go bowling? Of course, we all do. Just because they are not there yet, that is not going to take away from the success of other programs.
What I like is we have true student athletes pursuing educational goals that are finding success in their sports.
In addition -I know we have put more resources in baseball and softball, but most of those resources are ones those sports themselves sourced and if we can win in sports like soccer and softball it can turn them revenue neutral or close to it. That means more money available for football or basketball.
If we started diverting money away from football for softball then there is an issue. Or if we refused to market men’s basketball because we didn’t didn’t have money to give the women the same level marketing then we have an issue, but those are the things they used to happen. That isn’t now.
If we are winning now with comparable resource %s we had prior then that just means we have gotten better. I’ll take that happily.
It might be fairly meaningless in the grand scheme of the “business” of college sports, but it’s not meaningless to those students that work their asses off and represent our school. If we can get football figured out (huge if) we will be one of the best athletic programs in the country
Just posting for emphasis and truth.
But yes it is great to win numerous Conference Championships and should be recognized!
Btw doesnt Coastal Carolina have two National Championships, Baseball & Golf? Is that accurate? When i heard that it is quite impressive.
I didn’t remember CCU winning a Title in Golf, but maybe they did.
Baseball yes, not sure about golf. I know DJ played there but I don’t remember them winning it all
