Sounds good to me.
Mostly financial, the others are academic. On the financial side the one Iāve heard most often is that the university already struggles to secure resources through private fund-rasing for purely academic and programmatic needs that football would shift efforts and emphasis. From the academic side, itās mostly stereotypical stuff (more dumb jocks, reduced admission standards, etc.), but firmly believed.
More to the point, one can use almost every argument to illustrate that many of these reasons are unfounded, shouldnāt produce opposition, but the opposition will be there.
So, what strategies can be used to overcome this serious opposition? Folks at NNN are just as firmly convinced that āoppositionā is without any merit and unwilling (not all and not at all times) to listen to counter-arguments, resulting in neither side changing minds.
Wow what small minded thinking from such high-minded folks. Honestly the faculty is the last group I would poll on fesibility, while many are excellent in their fields, and here is a stereotype about faculty, most are out of touch with reality and hold onto ideals more so than most adults. If faculty had their way universities would have no sports, free tuition for all, tenure for all and would not be bound by any federal or state law.
Charlotte is already turning away applicants, we cannot grow fast enough. Our academic achievements are noted and celebrated, how would football lower our standards and increase jocks noticibly? Many football players could be top students and it is deft to think that all athletes are stupid. Football would only serve to increase our exposure, giving us a larger and more qualified pool of applicants to choose from. Furthermore it would likely bring more endowments to the university and increase school spirit and campus participation. The university would need more funds if professors want more projects, the state and tuition and alumni giving are our only sources, so football could be a new influx of alumni giving, which sorely needs a spark. I believe you will find an intresting correlation between alumni giving and schools with diverse and successful athletic programs.
Also on one last unrelated note, unless you are a member of the faculty quit writing as if you are, your style of writing comes off as latently condescending.
the football movement clearly needs a slogan in regards to naysayers and faculty types. If you ask me the 49er club and athletic dept should already have marketed this. Maybe this is a project for the CFI or student body.
Something along these lines:
49er football, donāt fumble our future
Thatās disturbingly good. Who are you and what have you done with Metro?

I thought the same thing. Iāve asked him/her if he/she is a faculty member but he/she has not responded.
