Wondered if anyone had any feedback on the new Niner News section on the main page http://www.ninernation.net. It’s got a drop down to grab the latest niner headlines from Jim Utter’s blog The Gold Mine), The Observer, Google, and Yahoo. It auto scrolls, but if you put a mouse on it, it will stop. Each article heading in gold background is a link to the article on it’s site…
The XML graphic at the bottom is a link to the rss feed for the latest threads here at NNN.
My personal opinion, but I’d relocate it under the “Recent Threads” block. Other than that, I think it’s a nice addition. The scroll makes it a little too busy to have that close to the top, IMO.
I’m with jcl. But not just the scroll but the fact that it is a rather large cell too. I don’t want to have to scroll past the news to see what people have posted. And if I minimize the cell and reload the page, it comes back unminimized. If it were moved under recent threads or made to stay minimized once minimized, it would be cool.
Also, loose the scroll feature. A scroll bar would be much more useful IMO.
Can you make a way for it to default to closed (as if I clicked on the arrow myself and closed it). I like it, I just don’t want it to open every time I go back to the home page. It moves the thread topics that much further down the page. Since I know it’s there now, I can open it when I want to. It will become annoying if we are unable to close it, especially to those of us who visit frequently.
No more scrolling, moved underneath recent threads. I think I like it as is now. It helps fill out the center section of the front page and provide useful information. I did remove the yahoo rss feeds as they had measures in there preventing syndication on the site.
