Fire Ron Sanchez

I agree the offensive scheme is not optimal. I’d also add that I don’t think we play the packline that well. Our offensive pace of play is what really helps with our points allowed

This is very true. Our defense never looks that good . If you get past the first defender you usually have a wide open layup against us. Our entire offensive strategy is basically to keep the ball away from the opposing offense for as long as possible. It’s not designed to help us score points.

Watched the Memphis Houston game today. Houston plays ferocious defense and as soon as they get a turnover they are off to the races. Perfectly happy with going right to the hoop on the break. Really makes the defense feel worth it.

They play actual defense and dont rely on a snails pace offensive tempo to limit opponent points

I think I did go on after that….

By the way I would prefer to be a shiny happy person than a miserable grumpy ass.

Totally agree that the defense should a not played that well. They show flashes of execution at times but it seems if the offense goes bad the defense goes with it. That is especially true for certain players at times. I don’t know if they changed the defense it actually changes the results.

That is why they are so frustrating to watch, and I think it frustrates the coaching staff as well. That said they recruited the players, they have coached them so it falls on them in the end.

I missed your happy thoughts

Lights in Halton are fine.

Halton had solid crowds earlier in the season, people like winning and this fanbase needs to experience wins regardless of who it is against.

Our defense sucks. It’s sucked for awhile. Somehow we give up both up 3s and allow penetration regularly.

Offensively yes sometimes we have players that won’t shoot but more often they simply pass the ball around inside the offense without looking for a shot. Using more of the clock is absolutely by design. Our inability to score consistently is an absolute killer and our player’s confidence on the offensive side of the ball I absolutely attribute to coaching.

We always suck out if timeouts. Why?

Running your offense through a center is fine. If your success on offense is based around your 7 footer shootings 3s, that’s not what I would call a sustainable offense.

Our coach rarely has an issue throwing players under the bus.

I would agree that coaching is part of it, but not all of it. When you constantly miss lay-ups and open looks that doesn’t help confidence either. I don’t know maybe they don’t practice lay-ups or shots and only practice defense, but I doubt that. On numerous occasions this year a player has missed a shot or layup and then they give up a basket on the other end of the court. If one player lets their defense slip it affects the other four because defense is all about helping.

We do miss a lot of layups. I still put that on our staff tho. Why do we have players that can’t hit layups but other teams have players that can?

This. In the end it all comes back to coaching. Recruit better players or develop the ones you have better.

If you can’t recruit better because your record says you suck, then I think it’s safe to say you suck.

Was listening to a coach talk about the rules limit the amount of practice time but players can always come to a coach and ask for extra work individually. He noted some of the best players and most improved put in the most extra time.

The question I have is how much extra work is being put in outside of practice times. That includes both coaches and players. Are the coaches not available much outside of practice, do players not want extra help. I have no idea if they are or are not, but in the end as Niner_National just said it comes down to did you get the right players, are you able to coach them up, and are they being developed.

“Really depends upon the team. #1 Alabama, #3 Purdue, #5 Kansas, #8 Arizona, #13 Gonzaga, and #14 Indiana are examples of teams whose offensive focus is on their respective big men. And the turnaround at NC State owes a lot to 6-9 grad DJ Burns.”

How many of these teams are running that offense through their big man 20 feet from the basket?

How many G5 teams can recruit big men like these teams mentioned and no I do not consider Gonzaga a G5 in BB with Few coaching?

Well, not too many teams (P5 or not) have a 6’11’ guy with court vision enough to run the offense through. We happen to have lucked up and got Khalifa. I think that in the two games he missed you could see why we use him like we do. The thing is we tried to run this offense before he was here and Sanchez (if he survives) will try to run it after Khalifa is gone. Barring another lucky pickup of a passing big man, the offense will get even worse.

:joy: Usually it’s “the best offense starts with a good defense”. But for us it’s, our best defense starts with a bad offense.

But for us it’s, our mediocre defense starts with a bad offense.

FTFY

Instead of speculating about scheduling, how much money are we losing this season because of poor attendance? I pretty conservatively estimated at least $1,500,000 in lost revenue.

Looking at stats of points allowed per 100 possessions… our rating is ~150 overall which is very mediocre and a good stat given our pace of play. If you take that same metric and apply it to just the conference season so far we are 9th in conference.

So you’re dead on.
