Fire Ron Sanchez

Yes! and somewhat ironically, if we go 1-1 in these last 2 games (very possible, but I hope we go 2-0) our regular season record would end at 19-12------the EXACT same record of Lutz last season that got him fired, against a much tougher schedule.

High cost if travel. The P6 schools travel for away or neutral site games because of TV revenue. Don’t think we’ll get that at this point. Stick with Furman, UNCG, CoC, Wilmington if we can.

What we don’t know, unless we’re in the room trying to build the OOC schedule, is what obstacles if any, that we’re running into in trying to put it together. We can either only complain or speculate what parameters we’re working within. Maybe it’s a travel cost/budget issue (we are trying to get a stadium expansion going after all), maybe a schedule conflict, where one team or the other already has a game slotted on the date the other has availability, maybe the other team would rather play someone else, maybe there are already scheduled HH games on the books, maybe we can’t finalize an agreement on time so we or they look elsewhere, maybe there are pre-season tourneys that eat up several away games so we’re looking 1st to fill out home games (I for one do want to see games at Halton, besides just conference games, even if some are against lower D1 conference teams, especially if they’re regional teams).

My point is, no one on here knows, one way or the other, unless you’re there doing it.

Could the schedule be better, absolutely but we have no clue just how much of that we truly control. Maybe just a game or two at most.

Why don’t we just wait till after the last game of the season, take a final poll and then Mike Hill will know what to do?

Final poll will be done. Until then we have weekly/daily polls to track the changes in fan support.

I’m sorry and no I wasn’t in the room or involved in any way, shape or form but whomever doesn’t think we scheduled a Cupcake OOC slate to pad our record is either kin to Sanchez or simply fooling themselves.

20 wins with a soft schedule, yes. But 20 wins with a tough schedule, no.

I think the measuring stick is the NET rankings for me. Wins/losses are subjective considering competition level. Regardless of which side of the debate you are on it is going to be tough for an AD to fire a coach who is trending in the right direction. There is risk keeping someone in this case as well, however once the coach is fired it is tough to keep players from the portal. Do you want to hit the reset button on the hopes that the next hire is it or ride another year? Tough call when millions are on the line.

What do you consider ā€œresetā€? How much of a ā€œresetā€ did Sanchez do in the offseason? It seems like Sanchez has been flipping the roster the last couple of off seasons. Gone are the days of growing your starting 5 from freshmen to seniors. Maybe the next HC will have players lined up to come play for him like Biff.

I understand trending in the right direction but the AD has to have a timeline on it. I agree NET rankings mean more than W/L numbers. I think conference finish is important too as how are we doing against our peers. If 4 teams finish better than us… what are they doing that Sanchez isnt?

We have 4 starters that came in as Freshmen and have all been here two years and the player that would be the 5th is leading Maryland to a potential 3rd seed. So yes Ron had to flip the roster.

This is what drives me crazy. We’ve never really got back to the level that Lutz got fired for & we have people acting like just getting close is an accomplishment. It looks like an accomplishment because Major, Price & Sanchez have all had losing records since then. Some are acting like Sanchez has dug us out of this deep hole when in reality he has been responsible for digging that hole 5 out of the last 13 years. I’m sure he has done enough in Hill’s eyes to not be let go, but I really hope Hill doesn’t try to give him another extension after this season. Let next year play out & see how he fares in the AAC.

Ron actually has a winning record 3 out of 5 years, just to correct your facts.

That hole started getting dug 18 years ago. Of course, that’s in hindsight.

But overall a losing record. The years with winning records have been barely above 0.500 which is garbage in this conference.

Anyway he’s not going anywhere this year so I hope he wins out thru the regular season, wins the conference tournament & finaly does something worth considering an accomplishment.

Dance is hard to be bar with current league

Wins and losses can be dependent on weak ooc

.net is impacted by poor league

I think my bar is really where ya finish in conf - even if it’s a poor league

I would be thrilled finishing top 3 or 4 in this conference. That’s the issue. We have struggled to do that in a bad conference & now we’re going to what will be a tougher conference. I don’t care what NET rankings say. If you watch AAC games the talent & athleticism in that conference is better than CUSA.

Are you Ron’s press secretary?

Some of us would rather support than retort.

To be fair, Sanchez’s record his first year here could be discounted, owing to the fact that he basically had no team left to him by Price. I recall us having walk ons play major roles. I’m too busy to compile his record during the last 4 years. Who knows if we will continue to trend up under Sanchez, but I’d bet we are going to find out. He’s being given a lot of rope.

You don’t help your argument by mentioning that Ron lost his best player, and Young’s new coach is able to turn in a top 3 conference performance with Young, a feat Sanchez couldn’t do.

To me last year was the indictment on Ron and his system.

His first year I throw out. Had no team.
His second year a top 4 finish, peaking at right time and COVID halts Tournament.
His third year he had players who least concern was basketball - I dont expect college kids to focus on a game when family members are near death.
His fourth year it should have all clicked and he finished 17-14, 10-8 and 8th in the league.

I get giving him a 5th year unimpacted by COVID, but man that 4th year is where we should have seen things return to second year levels or better.
