Football Head Coach

I think 30 app’s was pretty high, I wasnt expecting to really see anything other than Minter’s and some JUCO coaches apply. Most legit guys for the job know how this dance works, they aint going to read one single app online, they have already targeted who they want to target and are probably close to having a hire, I think the AD gave the date as a safety net so if No. 1 candidate backs out we have time to really look at 2 & 3. They will tell there guy the job is yours just post something up online so they gave everyone ā€œqualifiedā€ a ā€œFairā€ chance.

Welcome to the wonderful world of government bureaucracy! Like X said, I think every state job is done this way and I don’t think it matters whether the candidate is Roy Williams or an entry level custodian wannabe.

Shortly after football was first announced Judy said that she had received over 50 resumes from people interested in the position. I would not be surprised if the posting criteria eliminated some of them, and others may have talked informally to the Ath. Dept. and found that they were not a good fit for us, or perhaps we were not a good fit for them. These people would not even post for the job. I suspect we have more realistic candidates than would be practical to interview.

This is going to be such a difficult hire because a coach with a successful past may not have what it takes to start a new program. Of the few people out there who have start-up experience, how many of them want to tackle that challenge again? At then end of the day I think we are going to have to hope for some good luck. The good news is the men’s basketball team has been making deposits into the karma bank all season, so we are owed some good luck down the road.

FYI,

RT @TomDienhart: Former USF coach Jim Leavitt has agreed to become LB coach of the San Francisco 49ers, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

This is not a guy I would want as our HC anyway.

Loose cannon, questionable recruiting practices, awful game coach.

What he did at USF was pretty impressive in such a short period of time, but I don’t think his act would fly here, especially with the holier than thou crowd.

I would have loved to have gotten Leavitt. He did an incredible job at USF. To my knowledge, they never had any real NCAA issues (obviously he got in trouble for smacking a kid and then supposedly trying to ā€œfudgeā€ about it). I don’t think he’s a bad guy and his results were top notch for a start-up program. His work has become ā€œthe modelā€ by which all other recent start-ups have tried to copy. There is something to be said for that.

His teams were also known to rack up the penalties and it should be noted that no one’s hired him since. When the allegations came out about striking a player, he tried to convince other players and his staff to change their stories and lie.

While I get the ā€œwanting to hire a nameā€ crowd’s argument, Leavitt wasn’t a name when he was hired, either.

All true…but his teams were also known to win at a pretty good rate…not saying he would have been my top choice, but he’s not as bad as some seem to think.

Nor Major, not that he has reached all our requirements/desires/dreams, but he seems to have gotten positive responses so far.

Artilce on Leach. Seems maybe we could get him at a discount?

Josh Carpenter has tweeted, ā€œI was told to expect some #Charlotte49er football coaching news near the end of this week.ā€

I hope Josh eats breakfast at Chick-fil-a and not Burger King.

FTFY

Im gonna cream in my panties…

God help us!

After the whole ā€œbig news comingā€ week we had back late last year, I will keep my expectations extremely low for the news coming at all, and for whom the coach will be.

I’ll look for the news at 4 pm on Friday in an email to only the highest of 49er club members :stuck_out_tongue: that’s how we roll.
