They might just tell you what year they graduated from App.
Iām not sure why this board rags on people who cheer for schools they didnāt graduate from. Maybe they couldnāt afford to go to the school they grew up cheering for. Or that school didnāt have the program they wanted or wasnāt as good as a different schoolās. Or they didnāt have the grades/extras to get into their chosen school. That doesnāt mean they should abandon their fandom.
If someone wants to be a Charlotte fan but graduated from UNCW (I have such a friend), we should encourage that.
There is a big difference between going to UNCW and rooting for Charlotte, and being a front running condescending ahole just because you bought a t-shirt at Wal Mart and can watch ādem eeeeelsā on papawās 19" RCA if gammaw holds the foil right on the antenna.
To put it another way, there is no risk in being a bandwagon fan, which makes the uppity attitude all the more ridiculous.
This. But yeah, you should root for the school that admitted and educated you.
I root for other teams onceās the playoffs start or in big games.
I pick teams that appeal to me for some reason like underdog status, a coach, certain players, etc.
I then follow them through the playoffs and if they get knocked out I find another team to root for.
Itās about enjoying the sport.
What I donāt do however is ever where their gear, post about them excessively or act like Iām some lifelong super fan.
And the most egregious of these āfansā are the bandwagon fans.
Donāt get me wrong Iām gonna enjoy the spectacle but Iām not gonna act like itās so super important and Iāve got a lot invested.
Wait no.
The most egregious of these fans are those that donāt support their own school FIRST and FOREMOST, with their attention and their dollars and attendance (if they are able).
Itās all about attitude.
Agreed. But I will expect their heart always belongs to the Seahawks.
I have to admit Iām spoiled having stayed within 20 minutes of our school my entire life post graduation other than one year.
If I ever did move far away Iām sure I would pick a local team to support and be a ālocal sports fanā because I love to go to games, but I would not go overboard and not still support the Ninerās however I could.
I pull for the Niners cause thatās where I graduated. My wife went to UNCA and I live up here so I follow them and go to quite a few games. Kids went to NCSU and Clemson so I have a reason to pull for them. My youngest is getting her mba from Wake and from near WS so I have interests there.
Other than that, itās all about who I gamble on
So no new additions to the schedule?
Good to know.
I have zero problems with Walmart fans. The issue I take is when Walmart fan starts trashing my school. If you didnāt go to chapel hill but then take shots at Charlotte academics. Or use āweā, then I have a problem. You didnāt go to school there so you have no room to talk academics and because you didnāt go there there is no we. You are a fan and just leave it at that.
clt says they are called t shirt fans in the SEC
lol, yeah, thatās why I specifically ask what year they graduated from Chapel Hill.
Yeah, sorry for getting the thread off track.
