Nice to see the guys bounce back after yesterday… still a lot to work on, and I am lowering my expectations for the year a bit, but at least we showed some improvement. It will be interesting to see what we do against some better teams next weekend.
Awful start to the game… 5 turnovers on our first 6 possessions I think. We were down 7-0 before we even took a shot. We can’t afford to do that against better teams.
Wilderness was the best player on the floor for the first 10 minutes. Was really aggressive and brought a lot of energy to the floor. Too bad the fouls piled up so quickly.
Officials were extremely whistle happy.
Sirin is a huge defensive liability. As a whole, our defense could use a lot of work.
Deuce is the man.
Derrio is still lacking confidence and needs to work on his fast breaks. It seems like he always tries one too many fakes.
As far as I can tell, our offense only has one speed… on. Even when fouls started adding up, we made little to no effort to slow the game down.
Sirin was pitiful again. He doesn’t have the speed to guard the perimeter and he doesnt have the strength to guard the paint. Add poor athleticism and shotty Defensive IQ and we have a big liability. It would be nice if he could make up for it on offense, but so far he hasn’t.
I thought JB played much better today than yesterday. He stayed within the offense, but still seems a little awkward. I think he will get better the more he plays.
Spears was emotional like usual. Got the best of him twice. Otherwise he played pretty well.
Deuce, he is the MVP so far. He plays with so much energy, he just needs to learn how to find the open man.
Green: played better than yesterday, I didn’t count, but I think he took less shots. With Spears on the floor, I guess he didn’t feel like he had to.
Wilderness: I thought played pretty well. Got rebounds and put backs. Exactly what we need hiim to do. The refs called some really goofy fouls on him too.
Colby looked a little excited on defense, but I always have a good feeling when he shoots it. He tripped and knocked 2 guys down including Deuce. If Duece gets hurt, we should just give up.
Braz: Didn’t get as many rebounds as he is capable of, but again he had to play soft because of fouls. He did a much better job than yesterday.
Overall, I think we are going to have a rough season. I think KJ is going to have a HUGE impact when he comes back. KJ has the athleticism to keep pace with this up tempo style of play.
A win is a win. We have a long, long way to go if we are going to make the postseason. I hope we come out looking a little more sound on both sides of the ball against George Mason…if we play like we did tonight, we will not win.

Good sum up. The season is going to be a work in progress, but I expect us to improve as the season rolls along, and not tank at the end like last season.
we have a long way to go. but i am not giving up hope. we looked better in the 2nd half tonight. but that was partially because our 3’s were falling more often. we just seemed to be lacking enthusiasm. i still do not see much difference in this team and past teams. and spears’ 2nd technical was stupid but the game was over by then.
The fact we are having to give Sirin and Barnett significant minutes is a huge reason we are struggling. They have little to no defensive ability, and neither can rebound (although Barnett is a little better at it than Sirin, but thats like bad is better than terrible). Neither of these guys would ever be recruited by Major, imo. It is literally night and day with Anjuan at SF and those 2.
Green needs to get better.
I think we will do a lot better once we get Dewhurst and Sherrill back (assuming he doesnt redshirt), and we play a game without someone suspended.
Major yelled a lot more and stood up more tonight, I wonder if the people complaining he sat too much will be happier now. He also used more timeouts. Woo.
Briscoe is awesome, and Braswell’s post moves are great.
Actually, it was his third technical (he got a double T the first time when he threw the other guy across the floor). Dude needs anger management. We’re lucky he didn’t get ejected from the game.

EMF the double T was one on Spears one on the SCSU player had Spears gotten a double T he would not have played anymore.
Braswell post moves are great and he has a tremendous finger roll from any angle. I would like to see him go up stronger and finish more after contact but he has a knack for getting to the line.
Guard play was better in the middle of the game but the turnovers at that start were brutal. Can’t give the ball that easy against better teams or we will dig ourselves a hole we can’t crawl out of.
Briscoe - LED THE TEAM IN REBOUNDS!!! What is he 5’9"? 8 Rebs is great but we cannot have him leading us in rebounds in ANY game. Spears, Braz & Co should be embarrassed by that.Briscoe may be our best or second best scoring option but we still need a true PG. 6 TOs against SC State is not what I would want to see from our starting PG.
New coach…players may or may not “buy in”…we’re still suspect on offense and without 100% true “buy in” and effort, we do not have the athleticism to make up for that when it comes to defense and rebounding.
Will probably be a looooong year.
But with a change in leadership…we are no longer in a sprint. Long term success is our goal now and it may be 2-3 more years before we get to see Major’s real impact and any real success like we are yearning for as a fanbase.
Briscoe did lead us in rebounds… strange, but partly due to foul trouble with the bigger guys. Briscoe played 39 last night and didn’t get a single rebound. 39 minutes tonight and he grabbed 8.

The post season is not even a possibility in my mind at the moment. I’m just hoping for a season where we have some cool wins (that I can store in the memory bank) and we make it tough for everyone in the A10. I will be happy with that. Anything more will be icing on the cake for me.
I’ve been impressed by Deuce Briscoe so far. Great effort on both ends of the floor, active hands, sees the passing lanes well on defense (not as well on offense) and I think his versatility is his greatest attribute. Kid knows how to score. His shot isn’t pretty, lots of leaning and fading and jumping into it but it goes in. Still needs to work on his handle and protecting the ball/making better decisions early in the shot clock. The turnovers at the start of the game were just brutal. But as he grows into his role on the team, I think we’re only going to see improvement if he can balance the “scorer’s mentality” with higher basketball IQ decision making. Having 3 former point guards as assistant coaches has to work in Deuce’s favor, and his growth as a player here will be very reflective of our staff’s player development capabilities.
Neither JB nor Sirin were recruited to be defensive stoppers or even contribute solid minutes on the defensive end. We’ve been two guys short at that position so far…expecting them to fill someone else’s role and become a completely different player just isn’t going to happen. They’re both energy guys and they work just fine in the rotation and where they’re supposed to be within it…but not when they’re thrust into a situation where the outcome of the game completely depends on their effort at both ends when they have to play a lot more minutes than usual to begin with. Any time walk-ons are averaging more than 10 minutes, it’s hard to complain about the outcome IMO. I’ll give this team a little more than 2 days with 60% health in a brand new system before I pass judgment.
KJ and Dewhurst shouldn’t have hurt themselves, how silly of them to put their team in that kind of position.
You could have picked up some weights and ball as a boy and been the defensive/rebound machine you so desire for Charlotte
Don’t point the finger at others when you yourself are the one that truly lacks the ability and knowledge of the game
Captain Strawman. :
I never said anything of the sorts to any of what you responded to, or that something should have been done so that it wouldn’t have happened. But the fact that Sirin and Barnett are not good replacements for KJ and Dewhurst is pretty obviously the reason the team is struggling unlike some of the other retarded theories that people have been spewing (Major wants to jack 3s, Major doesnt coach D, Major isnt a real coach but a statistician).
No one on here could or did suit up for D1 high-level basketball; I guess we better shut the site down. Also, hiding behind a fake account is pathetic.
What position on the floor can you plug either Sirin and Barnett into and they can defend them? None. Their struggles aren’t all because they’re out of position (out of position at what? SF?).
I think we’ll be just fine once our starters and bench are all healthy and unsuspended. We’ll be even better when Major can play with guys he recruited.
