Game 4 Post-Game: Charlotte vs. ECU

Win! 74-63.

Derrio with the first dunk of the season. Glad we arn’t ECU

Looked like a TEAM tonight. Looked like we had a game plan. Most played within themselves.

WILDERNESS! I guess he read nnn before tip. Where was he at yesterday? Jones impressed me tonight.

At one time Green was 2-7 before getting some easy buckets towards the end. He played much better tonight! but had a couple ill advised shots.

One negative, we shoot alot with NO ONE under the basket, usually when Spears is shooting his fade aways… need to get better at waiting for rebounders.

Barnett had that nice 3 and nothing more. Guess Major was limiting his and Sirin’s minutes. also taking advantage of Jones, Spears, and Braswell NOT getting in early foul trouble! That was nice to see.

I know it’s ECU, but a win is a win and no where close to last night. Maybe GM will be another sweet 16 team this year and thats why we looked awful, lol.

I know it was ECU, but with how we were playing before I was worried. I do love the team play tonight. Only real negative about tonight is that I paid to be able to watch our games earlier in the season and I had to settle to just listening to it. I will take that all day if it means we win. I am very happy with the team tonight.

I think that Phil makes a big difference, and I still think Dew and KJ would help a lot.

.

we looked much better. even if it was ezu. better teamwork. better shot selection. better d. boxed out for rebounds. there is still hope. even if ezu has always made us look good.

where is that ezu fan? i want to laugh at him.

a win is a win…nice to see 5 in double figures

if JB grabs 6 rebs a night, we could win alot

hopefully Derrio has dislodged his head from rectum for good, played like a guard not a shooter (Major quote)

My favorite quote of the postgame chat was that one by Major saying that Derrio played like a complete player and not just a shooter.

That’s one thing Derrio actually mentioned last year when he first cooled off. Said he had been becoming one dimensional and wanted to start slashing and doing other things. Good to see him finding a complete game.

Wish I coulda seen this one.

Well, we are now 2-0 in day after loss bounceback games. Didn’t get to watch, but it sounded much better based in the radio call. Hopefully something we can build on going forward. Might be a lot tougher to beat them for a second time at their place in a few weeks.

How weird would this game have been if Bobby had gotten the ECU job?

Nice group of Niner fans on hand and enjoyed this one. Students and young alums like Chi and Jfelt are great leading everyone. They joined our assigned high school band in some dancing and Niner chants at the end. Phil gave a big thank you to the fans.

One of the “other things” Derrio was talking about occurred tonight with an incredible 8 assists. Nice.

played with energy & composure tonight. need to rebound better on the defensive end. Derrio was much improved. JB was solid and Sirin better have got the message tonight.

Nice to hear that about phil.

The difference in the intensity on both ends of the floor was night and day from the George Mason game. We are a pretty fun team to watch when we play like we give a hot damn! Defense is still suspect, but baby steps in the right direction are ok considering our showing last night. NINER NATION was in full force painting the town green tonight. GO NINERS!

I propose making Derrio the point guard and let Deuce play the two. I think that would work. Let Derrio know that he can help the team more by setting up other people’s shots rather than shooting bad shots.

Colby had a very walk-on like seven minutes of play. Zeros in every category but fouls; three. I know everybody loves him, but he’s still a walk-on and shouldn’t have to play ever. I think he plays harder than JB and Gokhan, but they shouldn’t be playing either. They are here to be end of the bench projects. We need Dew and KJ to come back healthy soon. Once we have a full roster, I hope the players can gel with the coaching staff. There is no reason this team should be terrible all season long.

DON’T QUIT!

Much better ball movement and movement by the players off the ball. Didn’t notice us standing around near as much. That got us a much better shot selection. ECU got a lot of second chance stickbacks in the first half that helped them keep it close. Only thing really negative that I saw was our clock management the last 3:30 or so. We had a 10 point lead and took some poor shots too early in the shot clock on a few of those possessions in that timespan. Had ECU made a couple of shots here and there after they got the ball back from those shots, that game would have been much more uncomfortable to sit through at the end.

Good to see the guys come together and “take care of Business” (as Shamari put it in the postgame interview on MASN).

Anybody see a resemblance of ECU’s PG and the Pimp My Ride host?

Congratulations to Phil Jones. He was a “factor”. Most improvement I’ve seen from him in a game. I hope it gives him confidence to continue playing like that.

Congratulations to Coach Major. Been a niner since 92 and I have never seen such good ball movement and shot selection. That has to help wear a team down.

Spears looked great. Briscoe was in control and may be our best point guard ever in the end. Completely different team last night vs previous.

Xzibit

The 180 in determination and focus between the Mason and EZU game was astonishing. I heard that Major kept them in the locker room for an hour after Thursday’s game, and had a meeting until 12:30 when they got back, I don’t know what happened at that meeting, but it worked. If Coach keeps them on this path as we get Dew and KJ back we will be a pretty good team, I don’t know how far we get, but this season to me, now, is more about Major taking control of this team than anything else.

Also, we ended up at the same bar as some referees last night! One of them told coach, “This ain’t my first rodeo,” and they all left after I yelled it at him. Then the Coastal players showed up. I am game for 10-yr series with CofC with all the games on the road!

I am very happy we won. As I said yesterday though I am more concerned about the mental make up of the team. As others have said night and day from thurs to fri. They played like they cared, they played with effort and most importantly they allowed me to walk out with my head held high. If we play like that every game, win or lose I am ok with it. I know we are adjusting to a lot and coach is learning how to be a hc. Just give me commitment every night like that and I am good!

We headed to Burns Alley and ruled the joint. They had some chapel hill and app stuff in there so I am going to give them my swagger shirt to hang!
