Stephane Lasme’s line last night:
18 points
12 rebounds
11 blocks :wow:
This guy is a player. I don’t know if he scores enough points to get A-10 POY, but to me he’s the MVP of the league. The guy is just nasty on defense, and makes almost any opponent a perimeter-oriented team.
from UMass Athletics:
Senior Stephane Lasme (Libreville, Gabon) had his third triple-double of the season which makes him the eighth player in NCAA history to accomplish three-or-more in one season.
Rhode Island was 1-13 from behind the arc. Make them shoot the long-ball, contested, of course. They are very athletic and like to run. With Lasme in the middle, they didn’t get many close shots. URI had 20 “points in the paint”. Lasme blocked 11 shots, and they only made 10 in the lane.
X, I would agree that Lasme is probably the frontrunner for A-10 POY at this point. Although he doesn’t put up the points his teammate Rashaun Freeman does, his all around game is better.
If I were to chose a list of potential POYs at this time, it would include Lasme, Justin Doellman (Xavier), Tommie Liddell (Saint Louis), and even frosh Robert Mitchell (Duquesne). If we were having a better season, I’d put E.J. on that list as well.
It’s interesting that of the five on the preseason A-10 first team – Alexander (Charlotte), Stanley Burrell (Xavier), Bryant Dunston (Fordham), Freeman (UMass), and Ian Vouyoukas (Saint Louis), only Freeman is having the type of year to even be considered for POY. Lasme and Doellman were on the 3rd team and Liddell on the 2nd. Mitchell wasn’t mentioned at all and that includes the preseason All-Rookie team.

run i wouldn’t choose the league leader in turn overs as a candidate for poy.
referring to liddell.
for what its worth no charlotte player is in the top 20 for total turnovers. as a team we are 3rd in the league for fewest turnovers for the entire season.

Makes me feel better about our game since EJ had better numbers than Lasme. Of course you throw in the lop-sided officiating in the A10 and consider Lasme sat on the bench quite a bit due to early foul trouble. Still…

In league play, he’s not. That dubious distinction belongs to Andres Sandoval of Dayton.
