St. Joe’s held A-10 scoring leader Dionte Christmas to 9 points.

Some stats from last night…

Stephane Lasme, Sr. F, UMass - 23 points, 15 rebounds, 11 blocks

Maureece Rice, Jr. G, GW - 30 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists

Rodney Green, Fr. G, La Salle - 19 points, 8 rebounds

Kieron Achara, Jr. C/F, Duquesne - 15 points, 9 rebounds, 4 blocks

Tommie Liddell, So. G, Saint Louis - 23 points, 5 rebounds

Will Daniels, Jr. F, Rhode Island, - 15 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals

David Gonzalvez, Fr. G/F, Richmond - 24 points, 8 rebounds

A.J. Hawkins, So. G/F, St. Bonaventure - 10 points, 10 rebounds

Ahmad Nivins, So. F, Saint Joseph’s - 20 points, 8 rebounds

Mark Tyndale, Jr. F, Temple - 23 points, 5 rebounds

BTW, read an interesting tidbit in the latest A-10 notebook concerning the starting 5 for each team. 50 of the 70 starters in the A-10 are non-seniors (and 16 of the top 20 scorers are non-seniors as well). Here are the numbers for each team:

Team - Non-senior starters
Charlotte - 2
Dayton - 4
Duquesne - 5
Fordham - 5
George Washington - 2
La Salle - 4
Massachusetts - 2
Rhode Island - 4
Richmond - 4
St. Bonaventure - 3
Saint Joseph’s - 5
Saint Louis - 4
Temple - 3
Xavier - 3

On further review of the Bona-Richmond boxscore, I noticed that Oumar Sylla is back with the Spiders. The 6-7 senior G/F had been suspended prior to the season after pleading guilty to misdemeanor possession of stolen property. He played 28 minutes and scored 9 points. Looks like UR coach Chris Mooney will use a 9-player rotation against the Niners on Saturday. Like St. Joe’s, there will be mucho freshmen.

GO NINERS! STOMP THE SPIDERS!

I’m on a stats kick today. Much was made of Tommie Liddell’s ineffiiciency as a 3-point shooter last season, when he was 2 of 21 (.095%).

Well, fast forward to January 11th. Through 16 games, he’s 27 of 53. That’s .509%!
