So I was listening to the Tony Kornheiser Show today and he had Gary Williams on today and discussing his career and he talked about interviewing for the Charlotte job in 1982. He said he was very interested and they had had a lot of success going to the Final 4. After his interview Tom Davis left BC and BC offered Gary the job which he accepted.
Charlotte went on to Hire a legend named Hal Wissel.
Clearly it worked out fine for both parties…

When Mike Pratt was fired we interviewed Williams, Eddie Fogler and Steve Cottrell - then the coach at Western Carolina. All of them turned us down.

Those three were definitely interviewed/approached for the job. Didn’t work out with any of them and so Wissel became a target after that.
