George Mason Basketball - Because mid major fans are people too.

I’m with ya.

Hey, Mason fan here. I’d just like to point out that (1) The Mason Bench is the go-to blog for Mason hoops, we don’t really associate too much with the gmuhoops.com, and (2) that mid major basketball one has absolutely no connection to Mason basketball; I have no idea what that is or where it came from. And yes, it’s atrocious, I looked at it yesterday. The analysis sounds like it was written in a middle school newspaper.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to this matchup, particularly to see if/how we can contain Spears in the frontcourt. We don’t have a lot of depth in that department and if our starting frontcourt players get into foul trouble, it could spell serious trouble for us. We have a lot of respect for your program and there’s been some chatter in recent years of how we’d love to swap Charlotte for Georgia State in the CAA.

Cheers to some great college hoops, and good luck this season.

Im sure you guys want Ga State out as much as we want Fodham out of the A10.

Haha, yeah Fordham is quite the stain. But hey, maybe Pecora can muster up some kind of turnaround for that program. He did bring a few good players with him from Hofstra, lightning bolt Chaz Williams and Halil Kanecevic.

I think the CAA’s RPI would jump close to A10 level if we could dump GA State and Delaware. But, I don’t think that will happen anytime soon.

Since you are a Mason fan, about 4 years ago at my old school we were trying to start a club football team, and we talked to the Mason club team. At that time there was an article written about building a new soccer stadium (which I believe you guys did) that would eventually be the home of a scholarship football team. It sounded to me like 5-7 years down the road Mason was going to have a football program. Its been 4 years and havent heard anything else…whatever happened to football talk? Not enough support??

I don’t know too much about it, but it’s a bit of a sore subject for a lot of alums that want to start up a scholarship team. The main problem currently is that the university President is against it, and has made it clear that it won’t be happening while he’s around. There was a thread going on recently about some interest from other university admins (you can find it here: http://boards.caazone.com/showthread.php?t=99297), so the wheels may now finally begin to turn since the current President is on his way out in 2012 (I believe).

I think the support is there, but it’s going to take a large amount of private and institutional donations to get it off the ground, plus about $500 in additional student fees, per student. Partly, because a stadium has to be built from scratch (the soccer stadium won’t be used for it, I think due to a lack of space). Another issue is the Title IX requirement that we either drop a men’s sport or add a women’s sport. Anyway, that’s about all I know of it myself, but maybe some others will chime in on the subject (I can send PiKappPatri8 you way and he’ll fire away).

The CAA wants us, I say we send Fordham, Duquesne and LaSalle to the CAA. and Bring in Mason, ODU and VCU. We’d all be happy I think.

Don’t think the rest of the CAA would be too please, lol.

That would a nice league, with a great geographic footprint and good rivalries too. GW-Mason, VCU-ODU coming over, VCU-UR paired back up again. The A-10 office just hasn’t seemed too interested in mixing things up, though.

I endorse the CRAP out of this. Not to mention the A10 would be a lot more regionally relevant to our program…

Lol probably not. But even with those teams its a 1 bid league, an without them, its a 1 bid league… so nothing seriously changes I guess. Let’s start a petition to swap teams!!!..lol well I guess with those new A10 rules about scheduling maybe things will change. Id like that league even better if Mason and VCU had football. Charlotte, Mason, VCU, ODU, UMASS, Richmond, Rhode Island wouldn’t be a bad FCS league either. Maybe one or two more schools for football only.

I think VCU, GMU, and UNCW made it that season.

2006 is the only year I can think of and that was Mason and UNCW
