Well, Iāve had some time to cool off now. I think we all need something positive to talk about with this team.
So, how about that Mike Gerrity! I think this guy is REALLY starting to play well. He makes good things happen, whether its driving and scoring or dishing, or getting to the line. If he can just get a little more consistent from the line and on his outside jumpers he will become the all-conference caliber pg we need. There, I feel better already!!
Everyone played rather well last night, barring one person. I think itās a sign of good things to come next year that they can play without him at a high level.
Iāll throw in another one. Iāve counted zero turnovers off inbounds plays in the last two games. That may not be accurate, but the point is that weāre improving in that area. Last night I saw several non-heave-the-ball-back inbounds plays and was pleased.
Gerrity is coming along strong. When he started this season he seemed to think too much, but now he appers to be more comfortable with the offense. I would like to see him continue to finish around the basket. I think starting Harris in front of him has been great for both guys.

Yep, even with that annoying āAir Ballā chant that lasted for an hourā¦heās coming into his own

I agree. I donāt want to look past the remainder of the season, but it is worth mentioning that with the youth and freshness of the suqad we managed to lose to a good Dayton team by 5 in Dayton. That was with Lee cold. This group has a lot of promise. Hopefully Coley and Mack will fill in for new comers next year so we can be consistent once they graduate. Gerrity is really developing nicely and the team as a whole is getting better at playing with him.

BTW, did he shoot an air ball? I saw him hit rim on a shot, but I missed the air ball.

Never saw itā¦and I watched every second of the gameā¦
The āAirballā chant was a carryover from when he was with Pepperdine. He apparently put up a bad one when they played at Dayton, and then got really rattled when the UD fans chanted āAirballā at him. They remembered that, and tried to get to him with it last night. Did not work, from what I saw.

Whatās the statute of limitations on the airball chant? Apparently, that dates back like 2 years ago. I admire the knowledge of the game by their fans, but cāmon.
(I was actually laughing a litte bit - especially when he made plays, and it would die down)

Itās mentioned in one of the Dayton Daily News stories linked in this threadā¦
gerrity is our best player right now. he draws double teams, finds our big men for open shots, is a great passer. if he can develop a consistent outside shot and jumper he will be great. i dont just mean a great player for us i mean all american, make it to the nba great. same with coley. once he develops a jumper he will be a star.

Be careful, I said soemthing similar to this a week or two ago that was less drastic and I got killed for it.
I think I said if he has a consistent jump shot, he would be a top 5 PG in college basketball by his senior year. I donāt know about NBA, but college his passing ability is very uncommon at this level.
Gerrity and Coley could be the nastiest combination weāve seen since Colson-Demarco. If they continue to sync up, we could make some teams look really bad. They both have great instincts.

I second thatā¦We get points on every possesion Gerrity slashes to the basket, whether its free throws/high % shots from coley and phil/outside jumpers from Mack and Lee. Gerrity and Coley have great chemistry on the floor.
I was also impressed by Philās contributions last night. He pulled down boards and made several free throws in limited action.

Yeah. And I wonder about the possibilities with Gerrity and Gaby too.
Dewhurst is definitely a player...he made some nice drives and short jumpers last night, makes me look forward to next year's more balanced team
I do think Dewhurst is going to be a solid player and I look fwd to seeing him develop. However, he has made some poor shot selections in the lane at times (not just last night). He will make some great rebounds and then force up a shot when heavily guarded. He seems to force the ball in traffic and one of those actually went in last night. His late shot selections and turnover last night were a big part of Dayton's final run.

Honestly, I really think the only reason we lost last night was Roberts started playing with his head on straight. The guy beat us single handidly. We were making mistakes all night, they just werenāt capitalizing, but then he started playing like he was supposed to and we lost.
That said, Gerrity played lights out. Guy is finally starting to come into his own here.
