Ryan Cabbage hired as golf head coach

Here is an article on our new coach. It looks like we have made a good hire.

Wow, we took a coach from a BCS program. Solid!

fire judy!

Wait so we hired an assitant WOMENS coach??? :o :o good grief.

Not unusual to see coaches move between genders in college golf. Same game. Was 10 years on mens side. Current national champs Augusta State have their Women’s coach as a finalist for their job. Consensus number 1 team Oklahoma State is headed by their former Women’s coach. Ryans boss at Auburn, Kim Evans, was once mens Asst at Georgia Tech, a top 10 power.

Same game, Niner Jags. Well so is MBB vs. WBB, Men’s vs. Women’s Soccer, Baseball vs. Softball.

Women’s game in basketball is extremely different in terms of styles of play. Namely, it’s easier to win in men’s basketball with a bunch of athletes that can dominate the paint.

And softball’s the same as baseball? Surely you’re joking.

Men’s and Women’s soccer are similar enough, I’ll give you that.

Strategy in golf for women is probably the exact same as it is for men. Though, it should be noted that he was a men’s asst coach before becoming the women’s asst coach.

Either way, this is a terrible hire because Judy made it.

After that there is no difference.

We really can find anything to bi*** about. Sounds like a great hire to me.

Amen!!

You know, when I found out about this the other day, I turned to another person in my office at Auburn and said, “How much you wanna bet that people at Charlotte are gonna b**** because he’s a women’s assistant coach?” NAILED IT.

Coach Cabbage played at Auburn and was a men’s assistant coach on the Plains for ten years, and switched to the women’s team when the men’s head coach left and the new head coach brought his own assistant. He didn’t want to leave Auburn, so he took a spot on the women’s golf staff.

I got the chance to talk to Kim Evans, the Auburn women’s golf coach the other day, and she said that everyone in the golf program (men AND women) is very sad to see him go, but that he’s more than ready for a head coaching opportunity. She knew about how good the men’s golf program was at Charlotte, the new facilities, etc., and thinks that Coach Cabbage will be an awesome fit.

I know that Judy never makes good hires because several people on this board said so!

Excellent article on golf grad Will Golden as he begins his professional career.

Also hate to hear he won’t return to Charlotte but Interim Golf Coach Adrew Dibitetto has joined the Chapel Hill staff as an assistant. I hope you teach them well but they don’t listen to a word you say.

2 time defending national champs hire their women’s coach to replace Josh Gregory.

Rising senior Olafur Loftsson qualified for Wyndham Championship this week. First Icelandic player ever to play a PGA Tour event. If you are in Greensboro… 2nd active Niner to play Tour event joining Trevor Murphy in 2008 who played then Wachovia Championship. Tees off in morning on Thursday, afternoon on Friday.

Best of luck to Olafur, huge accomplishment.

After getting past the early jitters with a double on his first hole, Loftsson turns it around with 4 birdies and no bogeys for his final 17 holes. With another solid showing tomorrow he’ll be the first ever 49er to make a PGA cut while still in school. Keep it up Olafur!!
