Good 'Ol Observer Again...

The Carolina Journal was the name of the paper back then. We had a couple of good writers on the staff. In addition to Ron, Les Bowen was on the staff. He went on to cover the 49ers for a few years for the Observer. After that, he covered the Philadelphia Flyers for a Philadelphia paper.

“Pop quiz time: Does anyone know how many first downs J.P. Losman and the Buffalo offense produced in the first half against Tampa Bay last Sunday?”

So whats the answer?

From the annual “Living There” section in yesterday’s Observer, we made #15 on a list of 40 things for the sports fans to do…

15 Charlotte 49ers: A trip to Halton Arena is worth it, just to witness the intensity of coach Bobby Lutz.
Used a picture of Plavich instead of Withers!

BTW, ahead of us on the list:

1 NFL Carolina Panthers
2 NBA Charlotte Bobcats
3 NASCAR All-Star Race @ Lowe’s Speedway
4 Duke Basketball
5 PGA Masters practice round
6 South Carolina football
7 UNC-CH basketball
8 PGA Wachovia Championship
9 Family Circle Cup (Charleston, SC women’s tennis tourney)
10 Richard Petty Driving Experience
11 Clemson football
12 Play Pinehurts No. 2
13 MLB Atlanta Braves
14 Meineke Car Care Bowl

BTWII, #22 is Winthrop/Davidson basketball, which notes: “You don’t have to travel to the Triangle to see NCAA contenders.”

MY SWEET LORD!!!

The family circle cup cracks the top ten…man that observer is DEAD ON!!!

I can understand the following being ahead of 49ers basketball:

Carolina Panthers
All Star race
Duke basketball
UNC-CH basketball
Wachovia Championship
Pinehurst #2

maybe even Clempshun football & the Bobcats

but the others are bogus.

And why do the practice rounds to the masters make the list, yet the actual tournament is not even mentioned???

You can get into the lottery to get practice round tickets, but there is no way to get the tickets to the tournament itself short of being elected President. And that is only a maybe.

SC football is a good time. They have good fans. Also I wish we’d keep playing them in hoops but Odom is not Fogler, so oh well.

Family Circle? Never even heard of it.

Masters tickets aren’t that hard to get. Practice rounds are downright easy. It is however, the most overblown, no-fun crap you’ll ever go to. Unless you’re one of these guys that creams over Jim Nantz saying, “Hello Friends, welscome to a tradition like no other.”

It’s too crowded and you can’t get a beer. Go see the Wachovia. It’s the same bunch.

Amen

So, are they trying to create the perception that the only local NCAA contenders are Davidson and Winthrop? They must have gotten some "advice" from MP, the marketing chief of the acc. FLBAHSOBQFDSLPOS.

I thought it was funny that they didn’t lump Duke and Chapel Hill hoops together … and beyond that they even put Duke head of Chapel Hill (fresh off a national championship) … I wonder how many UNC-CH alums wrote the paper saying they got slighted?

I guess I just needed to know the right person to get the tickets, could you hook me up with four for Sunday? Thanks.

That is the key, knowing the right person. Since I don’t know you, no, I can’t.

Are you sure you’re not the Blowfish? I sense some back-peddling?

Hootie - beer = Bad time at a sporting event.

I think I see a pattern!!

Okay, okay, Nugget, let me drill it down. It’s never been hard for me or my friends to get a ticket. However, I’m getting old and grumpy, crowds and long beer lines DO NOT excite me anymore.

Dawg, you are somewhat correct. Boring sporting event - beer= Hootie getting over it quickly.

And let’s face it, I love golf (okay, I like golf), but, golf-beer=boring, playing or watching.
