Goodman on the unbeatens: Real Deal and the Frauds
How about we finish a season above .500 before we complain about national columnists seeing us as pretenders.

I have enjoyed the season so far as much as anyone on here but I am a lot less optimistic looking forward. It’s just my nature as a fan until a team proves me otherwise over a longer span of games. Truth is, we have been irrelevant for almost a decade so why the hell would I feel different.
GREAT POST !!!

Fair post, but if you have seen us this year, we play a different game than we have been the last years. Total effort on the boards and defensive end and I don’t think that will take days off.

We haven’t played anyone so Wed is an important game, not just for a W but for the quality of play. The thing that concerns me is if we take long droughts putting the ball in the bucket.

We’ll see how it plays out, but it beats the hell out of being 3-4 or 4-3 or so.

Anyway, shocked sokool liked your post, just shocked.

We are all excited, no one thinks we are an NCAA team at this point. I don’t see the big deal of fans defending their program.

I agree with all of that. I’ve seen every minute of every game. I love the defensive intensity we have shown and I hope it continues. The freshmen certainly look like solid players and the second year guys are continuing to improve.

I just think that as a fan you are setting yourself up for disappointment if you set expectations way too high for a program that has not given you any reason to do so. I don’t mean you particularly, just fans in general.

I hope our success continues but if I feel this way (I’m one of the most die hard Niner fans I know) then of course the national media will see us as pretenders.

As others have said already, just keep winning.

A little love although the guy annoys me…

Our offense is still pretty meh.

We still have plenty of work to do on both sides of the ball but still is nice to be 7-0 and finding ways to score and win.

+1

One game at a time. The wins-losses are irrelevant. What matters is we play really tough D, and that we can for probably the first time in our history beat another opponent in basketball without making a jump shot, which I think is unreal.

Major’s refreshing and humble approach to the game, always saying that we must respect it, and that nothing is bigger than it, might be exactly what the team needs to prevent from having external pressure affect the squad. There is no ā€œshould be,ā€ or ā€œcan beā€ in this philosophy. It just ā€œis.ā€ Do what you are supposed to do, and the game takes care of you. Nothing else matters.

Still, I am worried that we will get run over tomorrow night. We don’t handle pressure the best, and the hype around this game might be too much for a young squad such as ours against a more experienced opponent. Our guys will know that this is a very important game for multiple reasons, and, Davidson will try extra hard to prod weaknesses to try and crack our team. Hopefully I am wrong.

It might come down to the coaches - both know the strengths and weaknesses of their teams. It will be up to which of the coaches have a better game plan, and, how they prepare their team to execute these plans. If we stay focused, and don’t let their 3-pt shooting get under our skins, we might have a chance.

IDK. All I really know is that this is Charlotte basketball we are talking about here. As soon as we are up on a high, we get hit by a big truck of truth out of nowhere. It is just a fact of life. I am trying hard not to have expectations.

But, I am an architect, and it is required that I have an endless sense of optimism in the face of utter failure. One can dream. One can hope.

Dickie V. Showing some love

ā€œThe A-10 has an impressive corps and Charlotte was not supposed to be among the elite. After winning the Great Alaska Shootout and beating East Carolina, Alan Major’s team deserves more love, baby!ā€
Our offense is still pretty meh.
It usually looks pretty up until a jump shot. The players seem to have pretty good ball movement, and the jumpers are usually wide open. I’m actually impressed that we still manage to get some easy baskets given how bad our perimeter players are shooting on the whole. But then maybe opposing teams so far are just that bad on defense, or fail to scout us properly.

If we beat Davidson,I become more of a believer. If we beat Miami…my head will explode!!

Who or what are you talking about? I think the board has stayed pretty grounded considering the SOS. It’s not like we are buying tickets and booking hotel rooms for the final four. I’d say we are doing better than we did in 2008 and 2010, some on here were talking sweet 16 then. We should know a lot more by Christmas.

TRUTH

TRUTH
Agreed.

Andy Katz getting in on the action.

ā€œ2. Charlotte appears to be heading in the right direction as it gets ready to join Conference USA. There is still plenty to do in the Atlantic 10 and in nonconference games. But the 49ers are off to a 7-0 start, the best in the program’s history. That seems amazing, but it’s true, according to the school. Coach Alan Major has a young lineup, with mostly freshmen and sophomores seeing the court. Sophomore Pierria Henry was the MVP of the Great Alaska Shootout. Virginia Tech transfer JT Thompson, who missed two seasons with knee injuries, has played in six of seven games and been a steady influence on the locker room so far. Charlotte has a monster city showdown against Davidson on Wednesday.ā€
