PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Charlotte junior Hailey Beam, the 2008 Atlantic 10 Midfielder of the Year and the Most Outstanding Player of the Atlantic 10 Championship, has been named to SoccerBuzz Magazine’s All-America second-team. In addition, defender Kathleen Beljan of Dayton was selected a fourth-team Freshman All-American.

Recently named a third-team All-American by the NSCAA, Beam led the Conference and ranked among the nation’s leaders with 17 goals, 13 assists and 47 points. Her 17 goals and 47 points are the third-highest single-season totals in program history, while her 13 assists is tied for the second-highest single-season total in 49er annals.

Also tabbed the Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer Student-Athlete of the Year, the Cornelius, N.C., native helped Charlotte capture its third straight regular-season title and second consecutive A-10 Championship to go along with the program’s fourth-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. The 49ers advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and ended the 2008 campaign with a school-record 18 wins.

Beljan, of Hilliard, Ohio, started 20 games on defense as a freshman, helping the unit hold opponents to 0.95 goals per game. She was named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team and All-Championship Team and was a second-team All-Conference selection.[/QUOTE]

On a related note, expect a visit from the Charlotte Soccer Coach on February 14.

Now that’s impressive. Great job!

Lipsitz will be here for a VERY SPECIAL event.

Hopefully he’s not wearing Kentucky gear.

Hopefully he's not wearing Kentucky gear.

I doubt he will, but I won’t give him a hard time if he does. He did a lot for us in the four years he was here and he is the coach at Kentucky now.

I wonder what is so special that he’s coming back here for?

Coach does not have to come back for the event, but it shows lots of class that he is returning.

Signing day is Wednesday.

Yay!

You mean to tell me that you, The Niner Alchemist, were unable to come up with a 15 letter word for “yay!”?

I am so disappointed.

I’ll accept enrapturement, but if you can come up with a 15 letter word, you get EXTREME style points!
