I know the admins will probably want to move this to ramblings, but I wanted to post it here first so that more people would see it…
OK, when I first heard the news that Lutz Live would be moved to Ham’s, I was SUPER excited. I had never been to a Ham’s before, but everyone I know who has been to one has raved about the food and said the drink specials were awesome, said its a cool setup, etc. Well this past Saturday night I went to Ham’s (the UNIVERSITY location) for the fist time. Just as Im starting to think, hey this is a cool place, LL is going to be awesome here, I start to notice something very disturbing. This place is actually the ACC headquarters. Like I literally think coach K and Roy Williams and all the whiney ACC coaches and fans must have meetings there or something. But seriously, they have ACC stuff ALL OVER the place. Hell, they even had a friggin ECU banner up!! Now I could have missed it, and I REALLY hope I did, but I didnt see ANY niners stuff up. Not one banner, jersey or sign. Nothing. Like I said, I could have missed it, but come on, a sports bar/restaurant right beside UNCC should have Niners stuff up left and right (Picasso’s, Bojangles). It should be impossible to miss the Niners stuff. Hell even OCharleys had a ton of Niners stuff up on the walls. Im not saying they should ONLY have Niners stuff on the walls, I realise the establishment got started in Greensboro (which literally is the ACC hq), but come on there needs to be a NINERS feel in there. Has anyone else been there and noticed the same thing? Come on Hams, LUTZ friggin LIVE is going to be there, Not the Roy Williams Fun Hour! AAGGGGH

You’d have to take that up with management. Unless they request merchandise or the school offers it up, I don’t see them putting stuff up in there. I’m sure that if some of you donated some cool Niner stuff, they’d be more than happy to accomodate you. But I’d certainly do it in a positive manner instead of going in there ranting about it. Just let them know that as the new host of LL, that it would be a better atmosphere if the place was a little more Niner-friendly. But I certainly wouldn’t go in there griping about the ACC stuff to plead your case.
Someone needs to get out there IMMEDIATELY (which is still too late) and give them some stuff to put on the walls. As far as I’m concerned, that someone needs to be from the Athletic Department. It sounds like someone has not done their homework… again.
If the restaurant refuses to hang our stuff on their wall, we should simply boycott them. I’m sure they realize UNCC is the reason University City exists.
That’s my .02.
edit: this was posted before reading that we have some baseball stuff in there…
In their defense, there is some Niner stuff up, even a baseball jersey… However, the predominenet theme there is ACC for sure…
Well Im glad to hear they at least have something Niners related. However, that place needs to change…
Again, I would seriously consider donating a couple nice pieces. If I were the owner/manager of that location and hosting LL, I would gladly accept/display Niner stuff if it were provided to me. I doubt it’s so much that they don’t want to display it as it is they don’t have it to display. Someone take them a Niner jersey (not another Wade Helliwell one though).

If they don’t have lots and lots of Niner stuff up then we should NOT have Lutz Live there. Simple as that! We need to support establishments that are going to support us.
I still have no idea why Lutz Live isn’t held at Picasso’s?

Need to make the place Niner. If a lot of people show up each week, then managment will realize there is a demand. Huge turnouts of people wearing green should get management’s attention.
I Emailed them, I will be looking forward to hearing a response.
I’m writing after seeing a thread on a message board about this location. It is the athletics message board for UNC Charlotte, which is like 2 miles away. People are pretty upset that we are going to be hosting our mens head basketball coach’s radio show there, Lutz Live and yet there is a strong leaning in the restaurant towards other schools, and little UNC Charlotte merchandise.
I’m hoping that this is a result of your inability to find products, and not a result of your lack of desire to promote the home school. As such, I will send you links to items that I think would be appropriate to hang on the walls in this Hams, to support the local team. I have been to this Hams several times, and every time I go I think about what an atrocity it is that there is not more Charlotte stuff in there.
They also have tons of stickers, and license plates, and other flags, pennants, etc. at the local college bookstores. If you want to make yourselves a home in the University City, especially considering you are the host of a college show from UNC Charlotte, Id suggest making it a little more welcome to the Charlotte 49er fans. Who knows, you may even be able to get some free stuff from the athletics dept.
Please look into this matter, I and VERY many other people consider this a serious matter, and while it may seem trivial, I can tell you I, and a large group of my friends would probably frequent Hams more if it was a little more sympathetic to the home team.
I will look forward to hearing from you, and hope that you will make some appropriate changes.

If this is where “it’s” at now then we just need to make it feel like home. As the fans, we need to address managemaent and bring some stuff. C’mon guys stop bitching and do something proactive! Stop blaming other people, take the ball in your hands and freakin run the court! We complain too much and whine about people not doing stuff. We need to address the Athletic Department or whoever chose the location (Jason help me out on who chose it), and if everyone brings one thing to LL, then I’m sure we could start taking down the crap (I’m sure they’d like to return that stuff to Walmart anyways… ). I don’t care who others root for, this is the unioversity location of Hams and it needs to represent the home team! So grab a shirt, pennat, picture, whatever and let’s paint it green!

OR…our marketing department, which is nortorious for dropping the ball, could simply pay Ham’s a visit with an arm load of nice Niner memorabilia. Small price to pay if it means more support from local businesses. Not sure it’s up to the restaurant to go surfing Ebay for Niner gear.

WORD!!! lets get on this and MAKE IT HAPPEN
The first Lutz Live is less than two weeks away, lets make it a NN goal to have that place changed by then!

O’Charley’s seemed to support us pretty well, but I don’t think our fans returned the favor. They were constantly trashed on this board.
I went to Ham’s Friday night and the food is incredible.
On the matter at hand, I noticed when I first sat down that the area around the top of the bar has Duke, UNC-CH, UNC-Raleigh, etc. signs and not a 49ers one. It did seem odd as I was definitely expecting more 49ers gear since they have the radio agreement/contract.
Judy Rose was at McCormick and Schmicks and (jokingly) complained about the lack of Charlotte 49er representation. It seems they had a bar lamp with all the ACC schools but no Charlotte. McCormick said he would put one up and said he would make Schmick pay for it… In the end, he DID put one up. It’s there now and looks really nice w/a lot of 49er gear on the wall.
If your’re serious about this, I know she’s not everyone’s favorite, but perhaps someone should get Judy to check the place out, call down there, or something… (?) Apparently, results occur when the Athletic Director is involved.

Will send an email today. I think several people should express their interest in this. And please be polite.
It has come to my attention that Ham’s will now be the location for Lutz
Live, and it is no longer at O’Charleys. I personally think this is a
great move, and Ham’s is a bit more appropriate for the type of crowd
the show will want to draw. I do take issue however with the fact that
they have virtually no Niners gear in there, and there is a myriad of
ACC and other large Universities memorabilia in there. I know that your
responsibilities end at the school, but I was wondering if the school
might make a good faith effort, and donate a good amount of UNC
Charlotte gear to Ham’s. I think it would be bad marketing to have our
mens head coach talking to a crowd of people with ACC banners and flags
in the background, and not a Niner’s token in sight.
I have contacted Ham’s, and recommended to them several items which I
feel that they could purchase to “spruce up” the school spirit items for
the home team. I think that as the location of Lutz Live, some of the
burden falls on the institution as well. As such, I am recommending (or
requesting as the case may be) that the Athletics Department donate a
sizeable amount of merchandise to Ham’s to make the loyal Niner fans
feel at home on nights for Lutz Live. If the school would donate some,
and Ham’s would purchase some, we could be working towards having a
Niner centered bar in the University area, which would be fantastic.
Thanks for your time and consideration.
