Hassan Whiteside (C, 6'10 / 200 lb.) - 2009

He is from Charlotte but he attends Veritas Sports Academy (Greensboro, NC); still has Charlotte connections and we appear to be interested. No offers as of yet.

Someone to keep an eye on. He is ranked the 19th best center and a 4 star prospect on Scout.com.

This is what Dave Telep has to say about him in July…

“Pretty darn impressive for having played only two seasons of organized ball. The 6-foot-10 Whiteside used to play street ball. He’s headed for a post-grad year this fall. On the court he blocks shots, runs and dunks – a lot. There’s a high-major future in his game and he could be at either Hargrave or Patterson with junior college also a possibility.” I believe Charlotte is interested.

Another post on scout.com about him in July…
“The light may be clicking on for this 6-foot-9 big man out of Charlotte (N.C.). Whiteside, who will likely head to a prep school next season, used his timing and length to swat shots in a morning game. He didn’t show many moves on the block, but was active defensively and ran the floor.”

Does anyone know anything about Veritas? Like some of the other players who have gone there?

It’s in Fletcher (NC) and Catalin Baciu (Clemson) went there.

Are you sure its not a mental ward that guy looks completely psycho, or maybe he was trying to smile, scary. Anyway, nice pickup Clemson, i can see the headlines now, “Seven foot daffy duck impersonator maims team.”

Kentucky, Louisville, and Neveda scheduled to come see him this week.

i just read that us and nevada have offered.

Uconn in the mix now

Veritas is a brand new all sports academy in Kernersville NC. You have to tryout or be selected to attend.
It is funded by Nike and they plan on openning serveral around the country. kville is the first one.

He goes to Patterson now. What high school did he use to go too in Charlotte (if any)?

49erwhit is in the know on this prospect. Believe what he says. Whiteside is getting a ton of looks from major programs. I hope we go after this kid hard…if we haven’t already.

He spent some time living in NJ. Seton Hall is aggressively pursuing him. Mississippi State is also talking to him.

Perhaps since I just read in Gary Parrish’s blog that X is also recruiting Daryl Traynham.
