Please pass the word.
Some of us old people (aka - former students) wouldn’t mind hearing the Alma Mater, even once in a while, during the season.
As far as I know, they’ve never played it.

I thought we had TF all over this last year, however the torture continued throughout the season. It must be stopped.

UNCCTF, Niner Nation Pep Band Ambassador reporting!
Our director, for whatever reason, is dead set against playing the alma mater, even though most band members would like to play it.
And as for “Call Me Al,” I think we’re going to play it again but with a new and better arrangement.

As far as I’m concerned, ignoring that song is a fireable offense.
Yeah, we’ve suggested playing it many, many times. We’re the only band I know of that doesn’t play it. It’s not like it’s that hard and we can borrow the copies from the symphonic band.

I don’t understand why??? But then again, I don’t understand why we don’t have a football team, why Marcus Bennett is not playing again this year, why we can not sign a top rank shooting guard at “3 point U.”, etc.

I’ve been to plenty of college sporting events around the country and I’ve seen an interesting trend. The alumni tend to ignore much or all of the music performed by the marching or pep band.
That is, until the Alma Mater is played. At that point, they stop their conversation and actually still recall the words to the song. Not to mention, they stand and sing.
I guess its just one thing to add to the list.
- Lack of respect from the local media.
- Cheesy scoreboard in basketball arena.
- Band Director that doesn’t like his students to perform the school Alma Mater.
Does anyone know the band directors email??? Maybe a few hundred emails could change their mind.
I know his e-mail, but I’m not posting it on this board. Seriously, go through the Athletic Dept. on this issue.

Consider several emails done to several in the Athletic Department as well as the Allumni Association come Monday morning, TF. It could be that more pressure from the Alumni Association could be exerted than from the Athletic Department. There is no excuse for not playing the song. It was after all, written for a purpose. And I do think the alumni, students, fans in general can have some say so in the band director's selections.

Does anyone have the words/lyrics to the alma mater?
Originally posted by pcon@Aug 29 2004, 08:56 PM Does anyone have the words/lyrics to the alma mater? Hail University To you we sing our praise May Charlotte's light dispel the night Illumine all our days
In Carolina’s crown
The brightest gem we see
Without your power our finest hour
Would hold no victory
So let us love your life
And cherish your great name
To aid your cause, uphold your laws
And your enduring fame
Thanks, is the line about Charlotte talking about the city or the school?
My guess is it’s talking about Charlotte, the City
If anyone else is in support of getting the Alma Mater played, and wants to send out a few angry emails, with a quick search I came up with some possible email addresses. If anyone knows of anyone better to contact just add them to the list.
The pep band directors name is Cory Dover, he graduated from Winthrop. - email: cory.dover@cms.k12.nc.us
[ul][*]Royce Lumpkin - Band Department Chair - rlumpkin@email.uncc.edu
[*]Laurence Marks - Director of Bands - llmarks@email.uncc.edu
[*]Music Department Email - dlshrops@email.uncc.edu
[]Robert Richardson - Alumni Association President - rrichard@littleonline.com[/ul]
I dont know who to contact in the Athletic Department, but a few names:
[ul][]Judy Rose - jwrose@email.uncc.edu
[*]Darin Spease - Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business - dspease@email.uncc.edu
[*]Mike Hummer - Executive Director Athletic Foundation - mjhummer@email.uncc.edu[/ul]
I graduated from Charlotte and I doubt I ever heard the Alma Mater. Dont know why the pep band director would REFUSE to play it?? I believe it would be important in building on tradition if the alumni would recognize it when it was being played (more so if they knew the words).
Well, I’ll tell you that’s not the right email address and the MUSIC dept. probably wouldn’t have much say in it. Our director is really not a bad guy-he’s the best possible guy we could have. Sending him a bunch of irrate emails would not be the thing to do. However, I hope as senior band members, we can hopefully pull some more weight this year and we will continue to bring it up in class. I would like to play it, but I’m not going to get mad about it.
