Higher Education News (non-UNC Charlotte)

Holy crap.

Didn’t see that coming to a large state U in a growing state.

At least not right now.

clt says we need to consolidate colleges in UNC

merge unca, appy and wcu
merge ecu and uncp
merge uncg and ncat

clt thinks this was posted earlier, but would be a conversation starter for consolidation

I believe we are very good on the y axis but lacking on the x. Our endowment is ~375M and our enrollment is ~35K. That puts us at about $11k per student. I think that is too low. Our endowment needs to be double what it is currently to feel better about our x axis. NC State is at ~2.5B according to AI

It is good to have goals and we are a very young university relative to our competitors. I think we are in pretty good shape otherwise.

I believe the For the Love campaign is trying to address some of this. Kind of with the entire $500m was dedicated to endowment, but I think at least half of it is, which is $250m.

Per the chancellor’s report, we are at $400m of the goal, so hopefully we surpass.

UNC-CH moving forward without arena component for now.

There are a couple of questionable statements in this post, but the general point is accurate.

And it ignores the impact of AI on the future workforce. Not only are demographics down, demand in general will be too. We could see a bunch of recognizable, long term institutions close in the next 20 years.

Elon/Queens is perfect example and many small private schools will shut their doors

Well, looks like UNCW is on track to begin the creation of a medical school. I’d be shocked if ECU doesn’t try and put up a fight, but the Wilmington area is surprisingly weak on medical facilities.

If only Gaber could see what a medical school could do for the university.

Wake Forest is doing a ton in Charlotte!!! Taking over the pearl park area

We blew it before Gaber got here in my opinion. The timing was right during (Phil Dubois) CHP’s time

Dubois set this university back decades. Absolutely disastrous chancellor

I will never forget when I was at a dinner with Dubois and he asked if I went to the football game against A&T that we lost. I told him I had attended and he went on to tell me what a great game it was. I told him that I thought it was awful and we should never lose to a 1AA team. He told me it was good to have games that are good. That is the way he ran the whole university never wanting to be the best.

Shameless graft is everywhere.

University of New Orleans is rejoining the LSU System and will rebrand as LSU New Orleans on July 1.

Uno! Down to last card
