Huge Games and FIREWORKS!

Big series in baseball against Xavier this weekend. They were predicted to finish 2nd in the league (behind us). Games are Friday at 6, Saturday at 2, and Sunday at noon. Fireworks will follow the game on Friday.

Yep. Another huge weekend. The A-10 gave us 2 of the top teams to start A-10 play. At least both were at home. X was picked to finish 2nd in the conference and will probably be our toughest competition. X is also getting the same amount of votes that we are in the Coaches poll. A sweep would make a huge statement combined with our win on Tuesday.

Xavier fell to Ohio State 4-1 Wednesday before travelling to the Queen City for the weekend match up with the 49ers. The Musketeers are 2-1 in the A-10, after winning two of three against Temple at home last weekend. Left-hander Jon Richards (2-2) has pitched 39 innings for the Musketeers and has a 3.00 ERA. Richards also recorded a complete game this season against the University of Akron. Senior Ben Thomas leads the Musketeers at the plate with a batting average of .416 in 89 at-bats. The first baseman has leads the team in home runs with seven. Sophomore Patrick Paligraf is second on the team in homers with three. He has a .247 batting average. John McCambridge is second on the team at the plate with a batting average of .386.
Friday night's game will be followed by postgame fireworks, presented by Amtrak, while Charlotte honors its best players from the 1990s at Saturday's contest.

Another great outing for our pitching staff. Andrew Smith and John Hamilton combined to shut out X. They have some really good bats in their line-up so getting the shut out is even more impressive. Niners won 5-0.

Hopefully we can take game 2 and the series tomorrow. Corey Roberts goes for the Niners. Come out and join the tailgate before the game.

21 and 6!

Cory Roberts pitched a 2 hitter (both hits were home runs) as the Niners take a 4-2 win.

22 and 6!! ;D

Great day at the Hayes!! Tyler Barnette goes for the sweep tomorrow. We need this sweep!!! Go Niners!!!

We sure do. I was a little worried early in today’s game, but once we took the lead I felt they would not catch us. Roberts seemed to get stronger as the game progressed.

Niners Sweep!!

Going 4-0 on the week, beating #6 unc-ch and XU who was recieving votes, I would think the Niners might be on the brink of making the Top 25. Probably Top 30 this week.

I’m beginning to think we should be ranked top 25. Only a few teams have a better record than ours and we have some pretty good wins, including a winning record against “bcs” teams.

Up to #6 in the ‘mid-major’ poll FWIW. Some big names at the top of that list.

Niners listed as a sleeper for Omaha.

Great baseball this weekend and great atmosphere! We had a really good week, should have another its just that we have a bad habbit of cleaning house like we did then dropping some stupid games on the brink of being ranked. I just hope we stay consistent as we just got through a tough week. Screw the rankings they are nice but sights gotta be solely on A-10! Either way the boys are being lights out on weekends so keep it up!

I hate I’m going to miss the game tomorrow night. I haven’t made it to the Hayes this year but I will.

I know the rankings don’t really matter but how exactly is Louisville a mid major program? They have BCS football money and a power conference basketball program.

I don’t know the criteria for that poll, but BCS means jack squat for baseball. The Big Ten is garbage in baseball and most of the Big East is too, although Lousiville made the CWS a couple years ago. S. Florida is an exception in the Big East.

Elon, Coastal, Fullerton, ECU are all bigtime programs but don’t play in BCS football conferences.

The poll is kind of silly, but I believe they consider the power conferences in baseball to be SEC, ACC , Big XII, CUSA, Pac 10, and the Big West(?). Big 10 and Big East are considered ‘mid-majors.’

Coaches poll is out and the Niners are at #30 based on the votes.

Rothlin wins A-10 Pitcher of the Week. I was expecting Roberts to be in there, but Rothlin had a 2-0 week in relief.

We are beginning to be noticed, and justifiably so. With our pitching as strong and deep as it is I like our chances in post season.
