Hwy 49 (U City Blvd) will be a "superstreet"

I was reading the notes for the East Entrance project redesign, and there’s a comment that NCDOT is going to turn Hwy 49 into a “superstreet.” This is what a superstreet looks like; basically, you can’t turn left:

I wonder if that’ll apply to the main and south entrances to campus, if you won’t be able to turn left at those locations.

Does CHP hate left turn lanes too?

While inconvenient, implementing this street design has been shown to reduce accidents and congestion. Pros and cons.

Sound similar to what they have in Huntersville off exit 25, you can’t turn left on to Statesville Road and have to loop around. It has improved the congestion issue there greatly.

Yeah NC 16 is this way up near Denver. Not sure I like it, but if it’s safer, then bring it on, I guess. Not sure people will obey the speed limits anyway. :frowning:

clt says that is actually a quad left design. A local example of the super street concept is poplar tent in concord.

Aren’t many of the intersections in New Jersey designed this way?

No that is different. In Jersey you exit right just passed the cross street, do a partial circle merging onto the cross street. Then you go straight at the cross street stop light. The superstreet is also known as a Michigan left. That is not a bad idea at all for that highway.
