Eason, yes most 9er fans I know DO expect our team to atleast MAKE the NCAA tourney every year! Let me guess, you weren't around in the late 90s when we were doing this??
You should thank Bobby that he was able to do it then. No mid-major can realistically expect to be in the NCAA tournament every year. No program can realistically expect to be in the NCAA tournament every year, even. Bobby is being hurt by the fact our fans expect from him the same thing UNC/Duke fans expect from their school.
Itās time to realize this isnāt Duke or UNC. NCAA tournament 7 out of 11 years at Charlotte is something that whoever you think weāll hire wonāt be able to accomplish.
A .500 team is not acceptable at Charlotte and with what Charlotte has to work with.
We're underfunded even for an A10 school, so I don't see why people think we're somehow leaps and bounds better than any other A10 schools.
Charlotte should have no problems being a top 2 or 3 team in A-10 every year. The first two years in A-10 were nothing close to that.
We finished 2nd our first year.
If you don't expect this from our program, then you are okay with a .500 team. Absolutely ridiculous question.

We finished worse than last year in '02-'03. The next year, we made the NCAA tournament. Were you saying Fire Lutz then, too?
Iāve noticed a much warmer welcome towards Lutz pregame and postgame. I think it is great that he talks to the crowd after each home game and shows he is thankful for the friendly home crowd and advantage it brings each night. He even grabbed the mic last night to tell people to not throw things. Iāve seen him do that before a few years ago in a similar situation, but I thought it was big of him to take control of the moment.
Iām glad to see him stomp up and down the sidelines and get in the players faces when they make mistakes, but he is also doing a lot of coaching and encouraging for the new guys. Compared to SIUās bench, which was dormant and non-emotional, Lutz and Moxley are always on top of things with the players and even pulling guys aside at timeouts to correct them or congratulate them on a good play.

-Thatās what I like about him and his staff most⦠THEYāRE INVOLVED with the players so muchā¦every team that comes against us⦠you donāt see the coaches rushing onto to the court to make sure one last thing is doneā¦it shows they really, really CARE about the team and the players. A LOT.
Eason, I hope you werenāt talking to me with all those replies and that last question because only the first quote was mine, and nowhere have I stated that Lutz should be fired (even though I was very disappointed with his coaching job last year). In fact, Iām actually leaning towards offering the extension right now, or alteast very soon if the team continues to perform well. I think heās done a great job so far!..So, you think Charlotte is a mid-major program, huh? I do have a MAJOR problem with that! Are you related to the Packer family, by chance? I have NEVER heard anyone in the media refer to Charlotte as a āmid-majorā, but one of our own āfansā thinks we are. Thats pretty pathetic. BY the way, you can put down the media guide or game program because I donāt need you to note our past tourney appearances, records or standings because Iāve been a fan (and alum) of this team for many years! I know our history with out looking it up! How 'bout you? One final thought, why donāt you call in to Lutz Live and ask Coach Lutz if he thinks we should EXPECT to make the tourney every year and if he considers us a mid-major program!

Its sad to realize that some of those most vocal about having to make a long term decision right now have the lowest expectations of our program. Itās one thing to recognize the accomplishments of great programs over the years. Its another thing to try to lock ourselves into an inferior caste in the basketball world because of other teams accomplishments of years past.
Davidson has gone down to the wire with UNC and Duke. Can we not do as well or better?
Southern Illinois has been to the NCAA tournament 6 straight years, and 9 times since 1994. Our record against them is 6-1, with only 1 of those wins in a year they didnāt make the field, assuming they do this year. Why isnāt making the field a reasonable expection for us year in, year out? (incidently, we have been to the NCAAs tourney 9 times since the early 90s ourselves.)
For the record, we are a high major with fine record against other high majors. We should never relegate ourselves to less.

Lutz is a great guy, but we would be crazy to re-sign him already. If it keeps up and he gets us in the NCAA tourney or maybe into the NIT, then yeah maybe we should re-sign him, but not yet.
This reminds me of Western Carolina when they gave their head coach an extension after beating a top 25 Eastern Kentucky team in football two years ago. He went on to lose every single game the rest of the season after that, and all but 1 game this year and was finally fired, but will get all of the money that was owed to him, thanks to the early extension.
Iām not saying weāre gonna lose a lot of games this year, I hope we keep it going. All Iām saying is for us to wait the year out and see how it finishes.
Iāve never said a thing about firing him. Also, it isnāt firing if his contract runs out and he isnāt offered a new one. That is NOT being fired.
I do mind that LUTZ took the last few years off and started deligating to much. I think it is awesome that the ADMIN served him notice and told him he needed to turn it around or else he is gone.
Why would you want to hand a guy a contract who has been retired on the job the last few years and simply let his assistants to all the work?
I have noticed a HUGE change in LUTZ this year and that he is coaching his butt off and trying to appeal to the Fans. If you heard his interview after the Davidson game on the radio you know what I am talking about.
If Lutz has a good showing and keeps up the good work I would think it would be a no brainer in offering him a new Contract. If he leaves for another school then so be it, atleast we got a foundation to build on in a lot of good young talent. I just hope LUTZ gets to coach them as this team looks like they will be really good for the next 2-3 years.
I must admit, it has been a awesome year watching and listening to LUTZ. Two things he could have done is pack it in and start looking for a new job or clean house and work his butt off to get this program back on track. So far so good for Lutz.
We havenāt played a true road game yet and you want him given a new contract? Great start so far but itās still very early in the season, waayyyyyy too early to start making these types of decisions. People need to keep their head on and not get carried away yet.
By the way, anyone who doesnāt think our first year in the Atlantic 10 was a disappointment didnāt watch that year.

Iām on record now. Do not extend Mr. Lutzā contract, period. The young man
peaked during the years of Rodney White and Demon Brown. Since then,
itās been a rollercoaster. We can do better.
Gee ChevEE, I was looking for reading material and all you did was bump the thread.
I think itās too early in the season, so I find the people on both sides of the wagon amusing. So I figured I would make it a little easier to find⦠for my amusment of course.
