some coming.
I’m not screaming TRLeader. When you say “promote” high school coverage, tell me what you mean by that.
Seriously!?
You don’t think you “saturate” the paper with local highschool coverage…the sweet 16…sweet 16 anniversary…game summaries…rankings…conference tournaments…etc!?!
Christ…I would give anything for HALF of the coverage you give Highschool sports.
That coverage is promotion. The more you talk about something and cover it and print it…promotes it.
Is it that hard to understand!?
TRL, I was just asking what you meant by promotion. Just curious what readers view stuff as is all.
My job is to cover high schools and I just try to do it to best of my abilities. If i was covering something else, same thing.
Thanks for the response. I do believe in, and read the local paper. I hope to continue doing so for a long time.
While I 100% believe that your metrics show poor readership among 49er fans, I do hope to see that change. For the record I think you coming here, and being cordial and kind is a great step. Mike P has checked in here simply to be rude to people on a number of occasions.
Our fans want comparable coverage to that of Louisville, Cincinnati, Memphis and our other peers of CUSA version 1.0 got. I do think the Charlotte 49ers are going to have to improve our on field results for that to be a remotely reasonable request. That said, I do think that coverage helped propel Louisville and Cincinnati to the spots they are in today. I think UNC Charlotte as an institution is changing, and has become much more ingrained in the culture of the city than it was in the 1990’s, as Louisville and Cincinnati were during that time period.
So thank you for coming, and I do hope this is a successful venture for you.
Well… in that case and in all honesty the answer is to hire a clone of you. The effort and work you put into covering highschool sports is all we ask. That effort and saturation promotes the product and excites the fanbase to see and consume that coverage.
Locals are excited from the anticipation of your HS coverage because of what content you produce and the amount of it.
Hire someone that will “pull a Langston” and saturate your college section with Charlotte articles and we will eat it up.
It just may take a lot of time and alot of articles to prove the effort is legit and win back us that are the most jaded.
It’s that easy.
Hear you. Well first we need to show some audience growth on Charlotte stuff we are putting out. So I’ll alert you guys when stuff drops, or try to remember to, and maybe we can move some furniture.
Just remember how long you’ve invested in covering/promoting highschool sports. That long term consistency and investment got you and the highschool coverage where it is today. That didn’t happen overnight either…and you weren’t targeting a jaded fanbase.
It will take a long sustained effort on your end…not a single season. That has to be seriously considered and understood.
It is
I don’t know how you could know, the Observer’s never done it. They’ve never had a featured front page article of an Ohio State bowl game, instead of an article about a Duke bowl game. You’ve never done a featured front page article about the Dallas Cowboys during the middle of the NFL playoffs. By the way, I’m not advocating for these things. Just pointing out that the Observer has set boundaries for some things and not others, even if they potentially would draw more clicks.
My info is speculative in one sense. But it’s not in other ways. Just drive around town, look at stickers on cars, or house flags. Look at what games people are watching at the restaurant on a Sat afternoon. You’ll get a general sense of what fandom is out there. This city is littered with flags/stickers for OSU, ND, Clem, VT, Pitt Steelers, Buff Bills, NY Rangers. Not to mention the NY Yankees. The Observer would absolutely get more clicks if they stopped covering the Knights only covered the NY Yankees.
I’ve been to local fan club football game gatherings for NCSU, WVU, UGA and Tenn. I can tell you that the turnout for WVU, UGA and Tenn was as equal or larger than it was for NCSU. I’m not sure if Duke even has a local meet up for football games.
Where articles are placed in the print product don’t determine web hits.
Here you go, fellas. I guess it starts here. Doesn’t seem to be behind a paywall, fwiw. At least give it a cursory click.

All of Hunter’s stuff is always top rate. They have been good with these deep dive pieces this year with basketball and football. Which is great.
Now just add the pre-game and post-game articles with a consistent beat writer.
Clicked and shared.
Hope this means we have two more Milicic boys coming here down the line
clt says we should hire some click bots from rogue nations to get the observer to cover the local team leading the AAC
Nice Igor article. A good article that’s NOT behind a paywall. Keep 'em coming.
clt asks who wrote the article? Hunter is at the top, but someone else at the bottom
I clicked from two different phones. I also sent an email to the name at the bottom of the article thanking them for the great article and asked them to keep up the good work covering the NINERS. If y’all do, keep it positive. +++
If we can show audience growth, could happen
