I'll be as nice as possible...

Originally posted by Pino Pipes Jr.@Dec 5 2004, 10:12 AM Post of the year! Hallelujah ATL and PI...you have crystallized my (and many others) thoughts perfectly - making a point that I guess I've been completely ineffective at getting across. "Fire Lutz" apparently rubs too many Lutz toadies the wrong way...did I mention Steve Lavin and Jim Harrick are available?
I'd love to know what crap you're smoking that tells you that we should 1) want Harrick or 2) that Lavin would come here?

The fact is you fire Lutz you’re not going to get a name coach to come here b/c we’re not a name school and we can’t pay name money. We’re going to the A-10, who the hell you think wants to coach there?

The best we could hope for is someone who can’t coach at all or someone who would be here 2 or 3 years and then leave us for greener pastures.

Especially down one in the 3rd OT...WTF would you ever run a play to shoot a baseline 3 pointer from the corner for? You have got to be kidding me.

You honestly think that was a called play? Plav was the one that popped open. We didn’t call that play.

Originally posted by 49erpi@Dec 5 2004, 03:10 PM I don't "honestly think" it, I honestly know it. I don't know about your seats, but we can hear every play call and you start to learn them after a while. With 4.1 seconds left and the ball out of bounds on the base line, Lutz called the play to Eddie and Eddie repeated it. It is designed to run Plavich off a screen to feed him in the corner. Fact.
Sorry, don't buy it. Eddie looked to two different players before in bounding the ball to Plav.

But whatever you say PI.

Originally posted by bobblinlutz@Dec 5 2004, 12:57 PM PI...don't forget the fact that Lutz was still having Withers run around the court like a madman in that ridiculous trapping defense into the third overtime. I mean, what was that? THREE OVERTIMES and you've still got your guys trapping all over the court?? Not only is it just stupid b/c the guys are tired as hell, but it created many open shots for Bama when we didn't recover. Absolutely terrible.
Another great point. Twice Withers had to signal the bench to get EJ in for him because he was exhausted. Lutz has got the best PF in the conference running around risking foul trouble and exhaustion all to give up easy baskets.

Withers has enough on his hands fighting double teams and banging for rebounds. He doesn’t need to be sprinting all over the court in a junk defense.

Originally posted by 49erpi@Dec 5 2004, 03:18 PM Well it really doesn't matter what you think because it is a fact. Me and several guys around me heard the play call and knew what it was before it ran.
Exactly. And we all know your word is law and you know everything. All one need do is ask you.

Even more amazing is that Plav looked to pass when he got the ball. What’s the play called by the way, since you know them by heart and all.

I’m not ready to give up on Lutz yet. With the move to the A10 next year, we’re not exactly going to have great coaches beating down our door to get a job here. He has made some tactical mistakes that have cost us games, but he is a great recruiter. Hopefully he will learn from his mistakes (someone email him this thread just to make sure he knows what they are ;)). As others have said, we can’t afford to buy out his contract right now anyways so he has at least 2 more years to prove himself. A lot can happen in two years.

As fun as this is, I think this round goes to PI....

From the post game trans:

Q: Brendan, can you talk about what the setup was for the last shot from the inbound?
A: Basically, it was a flare screen in the corner and we just hoped that it was open. Eddie made a good pass and it came up just short, hit the front of the rim

Sorta like a hail mary? Wow. I know it was only 4.5 seconds, but…Wow. Someone has some 'splaining to do.

So why did you quote me? I wasn’t talking about that play.

Wow, hate it when that happens.<_<

Apologies PI, I was wrong. And you are also correct, that was a stupid play to run down by 1.

I need to pick a new team to follow, this team makes me emotionally unstable.

Maybe you should apologize for your idiotic ‘why haven’t you applied for a job as coach’ too

That is pretty bad, that if our best play to run with 4.5 to go is a “hopeful” flare screen in the corner… damn. It did seem that eddie looked at at least one option (maybe two) before hitting plav in the corner. I’ld think throwing it out to midcourt to baldwin and letting him drive to the hole in 4sec would be a better option :frowning: granted we were inbounding on the endline, but still.

Maybe because even Eddie had his doubt about Plav's ability to drill that shot under those circumstances. I know that you have to listen to what the coach says, but had I been Eddie, I can't honestly say I would have wanted Plav taking that shot either.

Can’t believe we couldn’t come up with anything better than that. When you have a stud like Withers on your team, you put the ball in his hands in a situation like that. I don’t care if the defense was expecting it, you still let your star win or lose the game for you there. I’d at least feel better had Curt missed a short jumper than seeing Plav throw up a ridiculous shot that had no chance of going in.

Sorry, LF...my computer was F'd and I didnt mean to do that. Nothing was directed towards you.

Its sad that we think thats our best play since we ran in twice at the end of the game in the last two overtimes. It makes me feel bad for Lutz that he actually thought that it would work. Its a hail mary play. Nuff said. Whoever reads this board from the athletic dept, please forward this to him. The fan base has been abused enough. Lets just make sure this NEVER happens again. Although I’m terrified, cause know it will :frowning:
