In a nutshell

The one thing that scares me and upset me more than anything last night was early in the game when the score was maybe 13-12, we had 20 secs or more on the shot clock, and Phil Jones decides to trigger a 3-ball. Why does he feel the liberty to do that??? Shouldn’t he be afraid to have his balls handed to him and stuffed down his throat for that? Yet he shot it anyway. I am the biggest defender of Lutz, but in a nutshell this is the type of lacking discipline that must STOP next year.

to me thats the equivalent of David Wells trying to steal 3rd.

Signed.

Now that is comedy :lmao::lmao:

Agree… and apparently Lutz didn’t say anything to him because he attempted another very long 2 (had a foot on the line I believe) later in the game. Very scary if Lutz allows that to continue.

I think we all know things will not be different next year. I’ve seen this stuff every year and don’t think it will change. Frankly, I’m not real sure how we won 20 games.

I like Lutz and hope we can succeed under him (again). The thing I don’t like is being embarrassed on national tv. The games I saw on tv this year were awful. Maybe it was just the ones I was able to see (I didn’t see them all) but I saw some pretty bad basketball.

Anyway I’m starting to ramble but one more thing…the tired excuse has got to go. This is tournament time. You play a lot. Get ready.

To be fair, nothing seemed to be working at that time, and Phil is probably much better from the arc than anyone would expect.

However, you’re right, it was a stupid knucklehead play. And unlike what everyone thinks, it was in uncharacteristic of the entire season as a whole. Moments like that were the norm every time down the court, this year at least we showed some patience.

How about the 2nd 3 Phil took?? It almost looked like a designed play to me. I just don’t understand.

Maybe that’s how we recruit, we promise players a green light.

I said before the game that I thought Bobby would instruct our bigs to shoot jumpers at the foul line (Coley) or at the top of the key (Mack, Jones), in an attempt to pull the big guy out of the middle.

Doesn’t work when you brick them.

I didn’t get the one in the corner though. Maybe Bobby tried a curve ball there since nothin’ else was workin’. We needed a spark all night and never got one.

I agree big men stepping out is an alternative. But not Phil from 3. It was early, and the game was a tie or close to a tie.

I agree completely but Phil’s shot looks better than Wilderness or Dewhurst and we are going to shoot the 3!!!

It still amazes me that they started an undersized 6’ 4" PF and Mack never posted him up.

Hmmmm…I kind of like having a Duncan (Xavier) hit 5 of 5 from 3…what a nasty weopon that would be. So long as he mixes it up inside as well.

You guys obviously watch very little college basketball…

I thought Mack was gonna have a career day. Pretty much told sidehatch that yesterday in the shoutbox. I’m still in awe that he never did.

I see that as Barnett’s job in the future. We need a low post score we have trust in to finish.

Yeah he does have good form for 6’10. Good form doesn’t mean good result.

Amen. I am living proof!

Centers shoot a lot of threes in college basketball?

Well, here is the thing. He was wide-open. He has to hit that shot if he takes it though. He didn’t look all that confident when he took it. He kind of looked like, “Ummm, hey guys, why do I have the ball right now? Uhhh, I guess I should shoot it right?” That shot wasn’t the reason we lost that game. We really couldn’t do anything offensively last night. I mean, they were absolutely all over Lee and we couldn’t find someone else to take over the game. It reminds me of the UMass game. In that one, Mack got hot in the 2nd half which forced UMass to have to try to stop him as well which allowed Lee to get some better shots. In this game though, nobody could hit anything, so they just stayed all over Lee the whole time.

we got beat by a bunch of guys in plow boots. bobby was out witted big time and this game was another example of how a disciplined and well designed offense can win. i’ve seen better offensive sets in the mine shaft during the pick up games than what we displayed last night. i was truly embarrassed. the season is over and my opinion of lutz is no different today than what it was at the end of last season. we had some good wins but not very consistent. imo, lutz has taken us as far he can. he just doesn’t have what it takes to excel at this level. i hope he proves me wrong.

you are way off there 49x imo. There is one time only Phil should shoot that and that is if the shot clock is at 1. It was early and a tie game, so saying “nothing else was working” won’t cut it.

I did not say his shot cost us the game, I am saying that liberty that Phil and some others feel is why we lost last night, and lose alot of games like that. The only people who should have a license to hunt behind the arc are Lee, Ian, Mack, Harris, and maybe Gerrity is he is really open. Anyone else should get splinters up their ass if they shoot a 3.

you gotta know your role…thats why fat ass pitchers don’t steal third, and why Phil Jones should not be attempting threes.
