Mike and his mom like (Charlotte) Coach (Bobby) Lutz, and Mike is a good kid," Malone said."… But he also likes the underdog. He’s probably clapping like (crazy) watching George Mason."

not sure what the underdog comment means? I would assume we are the underdog?

not sure what to think of it, other than there’s still a good chance, glad he’s saying this though and hopefully there’s more to charlotte for beasley than coach hill

Very welcome news…

…It sounds like Huggins hired Dalonte so he could chase Pope and Beasley. The way this article reads, it sounds like Pope (ranked No. 7) will be going to KSU and Beasley would be a bonus.

What is encouraging about that is that it makes it sound like Charlotte is still Beasley’s first choice and Huggins is trying to position himself as the next best alternative. That’s a whole lot better than making it sound as if Charlotte doesn’t have a prayer at keeping Beasley’s verbal commitment.

That sounds a lot different than what was posted on ninerreport.com yesterday:

Simply put, Beasley is not coming to Charlotte. Write it down, mark it in stone, copy and paste this sentence on every message board from here to Manhattan, Kansas.

NCAA rules prohibit college coaches from commenting on unsigned recruits, so obviously Hill couldn’t confirm this, but a reliable source confirms Beasley’s no longer the Niner savior.

At least we know that we still have a chance, but chances are we won’t know anything definite for a while.

what if it were for KSU to get Herb Pope, and not beasley. Come home Mike Beasley, nobody is mad at you.

I suppose if we got the Pope to sign, it would help get us in that new Catholic Conference everyone keeps talking about.

is the kid still growing?

Can someone with a rivals acct. tell us what this says?

Nothing new. A Rivals recruiting expert says Hill to KSU puts KSU in the running for Beasley. That’s about it.

I remember reading that Mike’s mom recently visited Charlotte and really liked the area. It sounded like her plan was to move here to follow her son. It would be great to have them both in Charlotte.

Thanks.

my guess is, should beasley decide to go to ksu they would put some time in between the hill hiring and the announcement of his decision. if this hirng is seen as controversial, unethical, or whatever, a quick statement from beasley would only make it look worse. if he withdraws his commitment to charlotte it will be awhile.

Yes. This could drag on forever. I wish Beasley would give us a hint.

I think they would both love it here… basketball or not.

If Beasley goes to KSU, it’s not going to matter if he signs today or the last day of the signing period. It’s still going to be completely obvious that he did so because of the Hill connection. This one can’t be masked if he follows Hill. I’m sure it will be some time before we get anything official from Michael but unless he states he’s going anywhere other than KSU, it’s not going to change anyone’s perception of this situation.

I just hope he realizes what kind of impact he can make here as THE MAN as opposed to being part of a 3-4 headed monster at KSU. Rodney was the go-to guy here and became a lottery pick. In my opinion, Beasley has more upside than Rodney so the sky is the limit as a Niner.

I’m sure they would too.

Like I said, if Huggins is smart, he will not bring Beasley out to Kansas for a visit; but will instead try to sign him without a visit.

Looks like spin control to me. As arrogant as Huggins is going about this and the way he treated Lutz I think holding off to the fall signing period or even the spring is the best way to handle this. This is way to hot to touch right now and the media is already on it.

This statement in the story says a lot,
“Not yet anyway, the president of Beasley’s AAU team said.”

I expect Beasley to reopen his recruitement and slowly slip away and unfortunately be in a long line of “close but no cigars” like Jason Parker, Von Wafer, Alonzo Gee, etc.

The sad part is that Beasley could come here and get his minutes and as many shots as he wants and prepare himself for the NBA with Lutz looking out for his best interests.

The main thing Beasley needs is someone to look out for his best interests for the NBA. In that sense it is no contest with Lutz up against Huggins, Slick Rick II/ Donovan or anyone else. You can say what you want about Lutz and basketball but he is a genuinely good man with great character. I think he would stand by Beasley and put his interests first with a commitment. I think he could do this more so than Dalonte as an assistant at KSU with someone like Huggins who obviously will have a lot of egos and NBA futures to shuffle.

Why would anyone be trying to hide anything? Huggins/Hill aren’t doing anything wrong…and certainly nothing that isn’t done every single year. Beasley may or may not go to KSU. But, if he does, he can just stand up and say.“I going to KSU because I want to play for Coach Huggins/Hill” OH, my god… how unusual is that…A player actually going to college to play for a coach he knows and likes. Now, why is this so hard to understand. A new coach is hired, he hires asst. coaches who are good recruiters and have established relationships with high school players and coaches. There is nothing unethical, so if a players decides to go to KSU, more power to him. The idea that Huggins is doing something unethical is pretty laughable really. Players who commit early change their minds more often than not.
