Jamar Briscoe - Guard - 2010

great to hear that sokool.

heres a link to Cleveland Melvin’s scout profile

Moss2k thanks for the info. This kid is just as good and more athletic than Terrell Vinson, Jordan Lathan, CJ. Fair, and Roscoe Smith. All Baltimore kids and all top 150. As you can see Melvin’s college choices are wide open. I hope Mox and the crew go after him, he is the real deal. Melvin consistently outplayed the guys I just mentioned and was the best post player on the best team in Baltimore City.

a post from the Rivals message board about Melvin read like this: (note this is just a member, not a rivals writer)
I saw him at Virginia’s elite camp. Very athletic, dunks everything around the basket and really crashes the glass at both ends. Also blocks his share of shots. He’s an energy/effort guy but limited offensively. Not much of a post game. He also needs to get stronger – probably no more than 190 or 195 pounds on a 6-8 frame. But I think he has some pretty nice upside for someone down the road.
“Duece” is puttin in major work in Baltimore summer league avg 20pts 5ast 2stl against some of the top professional and collegiate players in the Baltimore/DC metro area. Championship game this Sunday I’ll let you know how he does.
Go :49ers:

Well we know abouth Seth Curry, and I’ve seen that Hayward kid at Butler, and he can flat out play. If Jamar is in that league, he’ll do just fine here.

I’d rather have Briscoe than Mutombo at Western

CollegeHoops.net High-Major All-Freshman G - Gordon Hayward - Butler

Seriously? They classified this guy as a guard? Everytime I saw him play last year he was banging in the low post and seemed to be the only Butler player who could do that. BTW he’s 6-8.

Official release from the school
“We are extremely pleased that Jamar has decided to join our program,” said 49ers head coach Bobby Lutz. “He is a terrific offensive player and was recruited by a lot of schools in the spring. Jamar will challenge this year’s team while learning our system in preparation for the 2010-11 season when he should help replace (2009-10 senior point guard) DiJuan Harris.”
Found this on an NC State blog:
The Eagles actually stormed out to a 10-2 lead. Yes. The North Carolina Central Eagles and their 2-22 record were winning the game 10-2. Jamar Briscoe looked like Pistol Pete out there for NCCU. He finished with 28 points. I was hoping for a confidence-bossting type performance from our gurads, but alas, the mighty Eagles had better guards than us!

… Ayala leads the team in scoring and assists, and Briscoe leads all Eagle bench scorers. He even dropped in a freshman school record 34 points at Duquesne earlier in the season. Opposing fans even gave Briscoe a standing ovation for his efforts in the loss.
I’m getting excited about this guy.

Now pack on top of that a year of practice and working with Dijuan and company and the fact he’s not the lone threat on the team…I’m really excited to see this kid even further developed.

I don’t think it’s a gross exaggeration to say we’ll have the best point guard in the nation come the 2010-2011 season.

are you saying that it is a stretch to say we’ll have the best point guard in the nation come this season?

We WILL have the best point guard in the nation the next 4 years.

Im excited about the kid but lets not get carried away…

I do like the fact that he can score and he seems to have a little attitude. That attitude is something thats def been missing from our recent teams.

I hope he has some skills. Attitude without skills is annoying.

Well, let’s think about this for a sec.

In a wingspan-obsessed, height-obsessed, vertical jump obsessed star-rating obsessed culture of college basketball recruiting, a 5’8" basketball player that can rack up points gets completely overlooked. For Duquesne fans to call him the best player on the floor during the game and to give him a standing O (last I checked, they had a pretty decent guard in Aaron Jackson) and for NC State fans to call him better than their own guards …

… I would assume he has skills.

Hope you’re right, I’m pulling for him.

I’ll reserve judgement on him and the rest of our recruits until I actually see him/them play.

And you know what they say about assumming…

:lmao:

It’s obvious he’ll be able to score. Let’s see if he can do the rest.
