Jamar Briscoe - Guard - 2010

Story is on Niner Report. #1 option at NCCU has left to come here. Will sit out 2009-10 as transfer, and pay his own way for a year. Details in story.

He’s 5’10. Scored a lot of NCCU’s points. Also took a lot of their shots.

Welcome to Charlotte Jamar!

Woohoo! Wear your green and white proud Jamar!

Not sure how well that transfers to D1.

My friend is the play-by-play man for NCCU. He says Briscoe can play, but has a little bit of an attitude problem.

that scares me. we dont need any bad attitudes ruining our chemistry.

North Carolina Central University freshman guard Jamar Briscoe has been voted the Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) Division I Men's Basketball National Rookie of the Year, as chosen by an internet fan poll at www.HSRN.com.

Briscoe, a 5-10 native of Baltimore, Md., is the second-leading scoring freshman in the nation, trailing only Seth Curry of Liberty, and became the first freshman in school history to score more than 500 points.

As a starter in 30 of the team’s 31 games as a true freshman, missing one game due to injury, Briscoe led the Eagles in scoring (535 points / 17.8 avg.), assists (79 / 2.6 avg.) and steals (53 / 1.8 avg.).

Jamar Briscoe (N.C. Central) Div. I Men - National Rookie of the Year (G, 5'10, 155, Fr., Baltimore, MD) first NCCU freshman to score over 500 points finishing with 535 points. Led the team in scoring averaging 17.8 points per game and assists with 79. Scored a season high 37 points against Longwood (Feb. 28) and averaged 35.5 points per game in their two game week with Longwood.

Vs… (all away games)

Wake Forest 6-19 (3-6 from 3) - 18 pts, 4 TO, 2 steals
Duquesne 9-18 (15-18 Fts) - 34 pts, 4 Tos, fouled out.
Michigan - 11 pts, 4 TOs
Arkansas - 9-19 (6-10 from 3) - 24 pts, 6 TOs
NCSU - 10-22 (5-9 from 3), 28 pts 5 assist, 4 TOs

This guy took 440 shots last season (14.7 per game!), so its safe to say that the offense was run through him, and then some. It partly explains his high TO #'s, but he still seems a little TO prone.

He got shut down by Tulsa, but it’s nice to see that he had some better point production games against upper level programs.

When did he score these points would be my question, after the other bench was cleared?

Wake Forest -18 pts, 94-48
Duquesne - 34 pts, 97-79
Michigan - 11 pts, 77-57
Arkansas - 24 pts, 98-70
NCSU - 28 pts, 87-59

Had 26 against High Point too.
But I welcome him to Charlotte, maybe he just wasn’t going to fit in with the new coach.

So you’re saying he’ll fit right in?

I hate Tulsa.

He'll fit in well here.

I was thinking the same thing. Isn’t NCCU the team that always gets destroyed? I’m glad he’s a Niner but will withhold enthusiasm, as usual, until I see him play.

I’m going to temper my enthusiasm a bit. While we sure as hell ain’t been wprldbeaters recently,we’re a long ways away from NCCU. Seems like he’s a shooter and his 3 pt.% seems pretty good but is that primarily his game? I’ll welcome him and hope for the best.

he’ll be alright at Charlotte

My friend is the play-by-play man for NCCU. He says Briscoe can play, but has a little bit of an attitude problem.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that was a result of his frustration with how unsuccessful his team was despite him putting everything he had into the game. That should be a non-issue at Charlotte. I noticed his assist-turnover ratio and overall number of assists per game leave something to be desired, those are the things Harris and Bobby can teach and develop in him while he sits the year out. Harris would be a great assistant coach for when we get guys like this, his strengths are their weaknesses.
