There was a huge snowstorm in January 1988 when Charlotte beat Bradley with Hersey Hawkins at the Charlotte Coliseum on Independence.
Despite the traffic issues, the arena was packed. The game was on national tv when there was no ESPN2 or U. It was on ESPN and gave Charlotte and the University great publicity.
Hawkins went off for nearly 50. I drove back early from Christmas break
I was there. Hawkins was amazing

“Top” and “heaviest” are redundant modifiers, Brad. Pick one and go with it. I would dump “top”.
We buried a full ruler in our yard. Anyone get more than that?
I was trying to remember the blizzard we had in 1992 or 1993? It was a multi day thing - so while I dont think we got this much snow in one day, IIRC we ended up with something like 18” over two days? Possibly more?
Snow, rain, or shine. Still representing’! Enlarge and you can make out my smaller flag through this crepe Myrtle near the street beside my green mailbox. ![]()

That’s kinda wild.
Apex was the peak of minimal snowfall this time. Wild storm with Raleigh in the “dry slot”.
Might as well put this here…
I didn’t think the roads were gonna be too bad today as right around the house it looked good. Went out at lunch and aside from the state roads in Davidson, I was surprised how bad they were. They had a mile of one road near me closed altogether because it was a solid sheet of ice.
I guess we really don’t have the equipment for this kind of snowfall after all ![]()
clt says open the schools. the malls are open
I was working at the Wendover rd ABC store in 88. We were busy as hell. People couldn’t get to work but they could get to the liquor store. Lol
You withholding allocated releases, however rare they may be? Hook a Niner brother upppppp. Please.
Yup! I live in Winston-Salem. We haven’t had mail delivered since 01/24 USPS says our road isn’t clear enough. We’re now on our second week of no garbage pickup. Main roads are fine…side roads look like crap. Schools here haven’t been open for in-person since 01/23, they’ve had a few remote days. I don’t think the kids will go back at all this week so likely two straight weeks of no school.
I don’t have the option to work from home and fortunately have four wheel drive so I have been able to get to work. Others on my team haven’t been so lucky and are having to use their vacation and sick time.
