My take on it is this: Phase 1a is exciting news, I look forward to itā¦but, build me a winning football team and Iāll be more excited.
Iāll be the broken record, but if your strategy as the AD is to go radio silent for multiple years without providing any progress updatesā¦then your ābig revealā better be big.
Periodic updates on fundraising wouldāve kept expectations in check and maintained some level of interest. Instead, it felt like Mike went totally dark for yearsā¦which is never a good strategy and particularly bad when you under deliverā¦
Iāll be the first to admit though, as a fan base, we all have champagne taste on a beer budget.
clt looks forward to pounding some gold rushes in the tower!
This isnāt an announcement for a shopping mall expansion. I have seen behind the scenes as a supplier for NC University athletic departments. I would hate to have their job. First they have to get approvals and then budgets before they can even start fundraising. By the time they get the money everything has changed. Throw in Covid, the changing landscape of college sports and inflation⦠Phase 1a looks pretty good for a start.
Iām excited. Not sure how that changes my behavior at this point.
Iām real excited that my seats may be under the overhang. Not sure yet but it looks like it.
Oh crap. I looked at the renderings again and I see there is not really an overhang.
Oh well.
Iām still excited though.
More of the alumni side of the stadium will be shaded in the afternoon timeframe based on this position of the sun once the tower is built.
Not sure why everyone is hung up on the āonly 3k seatsā. We donāt sell out what we have now. It looks bad to have empty seats. The tower will look nicer than empty seats.
I donāt really care about the number of seats much. I do fear we will have a weird lopsided stadium for several years after this expansion however. Was really hoping weād add some upper level seating on both sides immediately.
FWIW, my thinking is similar to @Niner_National s, though I do think less than 20k still feels weird.
I know they are working on the other 15 mil to build the other side. Iāll be shocked if when this construction is complete if both sides arenāt done.
Iām assuming issues binds for that portion is still possible unless state has denied that.
Hill saying stadium expansion should begin āsometime in 2025ā.
The interview was very interesting, what was everyone else view on it?
In terms of Football, mentioned we will be better this year because of QB, O line & skill positions on offense⦠first time i heard him say Biff was a āroll the diceā hire.
The over $500,000 football NIL caught my attention. That was more than I would have guessed. I think that is pretty good but have no idea what other G5s have.
Some have millions. Some have none. We could do better, but we could also do worse.
My understating is that some of Biffs friends fund the majority of it, but thatās just hearsay. Wouldnāt shock me though since the person that runs the football NIL collective is connected to Biff.
That is way less than i would have expected but that was last year, not this year. Hoops is around 500k for nil. Football needs to be way higher
I donāt think way higher is happening but maybe Iām wrong. Pretty sure that $500k came from Biff or Biffās connections last year since they made it almost impossible for anyone to donate to the Gold Mine Alliance or whatever the football collective is called. Maybe with some success on the field we could double that but Iām not sure where the money would come from to be way more than $500k.
Yeah but that 500k is for 1 season, not for the foreseeable future. You have to raise nil every year and 500k in football isnt enough
Will never be enoughā¦
In what sense? To compete in the AAC, yes. To compete with the SEC, no.
