Fine story in the News and Observer… Kay Yow dies at 66.

The woman was a gem. I met her several times. As I’ve stated on NNN, at the NC State tournament our women played in at the beginning of this season, after the Wolfpack played the first game, Yow made sure she spoke to every person in Reynolds Coliseum, especially the kids. She definitely enjoyed seeing everyone.

This sentence in the GoPack.com initial media release sums it up nicely.
Yow, who was in her 38th year of coaching, will be remembered for the hundreds and thousands of lives she touched through basketball and through her tireless efforts to fight cancer.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the Yow family, the WOlfpack current and former players/staff and to the entire NC State community.

What a wonderful person and an inspiration to anyone.

RIP KAY YOW!!

RIP KAY YOW!!

Very sad to hear

very sad to hear, she was an inspiration to so many people.

Wow, wasn’t she still on the court less than a month ago? Very sad day. At least she is not suffering anymore. Gone, but never ever forgotten. Does Reynolds Coliseum’s court have a coaches name on it yet? It should now.

Yeah, it’s Kay Yow Court as of 2007.

RIP Kay Yow.

My 2 best memories of Kay are her coaching against virginia in a 123-120 triple OT game back in the late 80’s or early 90’s, and the story of a game against virginia back in 1977 when she punched my mom in the face after my mom took a charge on one of her players!

Very sad. My dad took me to many of her games growing up, telling me it was easier to learn the fundamentals watching the women’s game.

Truley an inspiration. Sad day.

The basketball court was named after her in 2007, right after the Wolfpack defeated #2 UNC-Chapel Hill.

Yow’s record was 737-344 over 38 seasons. She was one of just six coaches to ever compile over 700 victories and began this season as the most tenured active coach.
I’ve never understood all the fanfare. She isn’t the least bit hot.
There’s always one jerk in the crowd.

Classy lady.

this thread was a lot bigger before, what happened?
