La Salle Post game thread

Coach Oliver said in the pre-game talk that Mayfield has walking pneumonia They didn’t plan to play him but he really wanted to and the doctor checked him out and said he looked better today. When he is well I am ready to start him and put Braz back on the bench.

Tonight Ingram had an off game, so Nickerson stepped up. Clayton did not produce like he has been, so Clark took up the slack. It is nice to go 9 deep.

Thats what she said… sorry couldn’t help it.

Hard to believe that most of the board, myself included, was pleading for the team’s “best player” to start up until 2 games ago. What the hell happened to him??? It’s not like teams are playing him that much differently prior to 2 games ago.

Definately need to start Mayfield & Clark and sit T Will & Bras

Earlier today I saw EVic and a passenger (I assume it was another bball player) in the drive-through at McDonald’s. Maybe he needs to make this his pre-game meal from now on. I didn’t get to see the game but his stat line looks strong.

EVN is looking much much better last few games while TWill and Bras are in serious slumps. Next starting line up should be Mayfield, Henry, EVN, Clayton and Clark. I would like to see Thorne get some time if Bras continues this slump.

I’ve always been a fan of VicNic and think it would be great if he got some starting minutes. It seems that as the season goes on he is getting more confident and playing much better.

Just a question since I didn’t have the chance to see the game. People keep talking about how ugly we play, but it seems we are averaging scoring in the low 70s. Since we’ve joined the A10, this seems to be the norm. However, now we are taking high percentage shots instead of jacking up threes. What would make people more happy about the way we are playing?

If they kept the stat of +/- Braswell would have been about -50.

He is hurting us in every way possible. He is incredibly soft, never even tries for off. rebounds and gives up the minute anyone leans on him.He cannot jump and as someone said to me tonight…"he looks like he’s stoned out there. For a guy who’s got more to prove than anyone as far as next level…he’s playing himself right into Siberia.

He’s the guy the youngsters should be looking to for Senior leadership but all they see is a guy who stands around, never mixes it up and spends half his courttime pointing at our other players as if they are causing problems.

And…I love Clayton. He doesn’t really have any off. game from more than 5 feet out,but the guy’s got an incredible bball IQ.,he knows what he can and cannot do at this point, and always hustles…it’s contagious.Love the guy

good question

if we keep playing like this when we have a double-digit lead in the 2nd half then we’re doomed when conference play starts

btw, henry had 1 assist to 6 turnovers this game?? our next starting lineup definitely should be ingram, mayfield, evic, clark, and clayton. stop playing bras- give jtt his minutes. benny should take over twills spot too. idk what the hell major is thinking we could have a lot better of a record right now.

Really good win. A near on double digit victory over a very good La Salle team is impressive. We played really well on offense, defiantly one of our better games on the season at that end. Henry, E-Vic and Clark were clearly our three best players, how many times did you expect to hear that at the start of the season?

Bras is struggling no doubt, but wasn’t everyone calling for him to start three games ago? Now everybody wants to bench him again. Don’t forget he does force double teams is nothing else. He does need to step up up though, big time.

Haha are you being serious. We have lost two games, what did you expect us to be 15-0? Yeah lets bench Herny, our best player.

no, not serious at all.

Bras is struggling no doubt, but wasn't everyone calling for him to start three games ago? Now everybody wants to bench him again.

kind of similar to what you were saying here, just in a sarcastic way.

Braz's regression is kinda understandable when our new players are producing. It's just a natural progression of a team that's getting really good. He knows what all our expectations are of him, and he's trying a little too hard rather than let the game come to him.
Boy this team plays aggressively tough. It's a style that will make bone headed mistakes but the plus s far out weigh the bad. What's our record now? I rest my case.

2 games with Bras starting, and we’re not winning “with” him, we are winning “in spite” of him. You would think this would be a wake-up call of sorts for him, the fact that when he stinks it up, this team does NOT go down with him.

While on the other hand you have Mayfield come off the bench with walking pneumonia and outscore, outrebound, commit 2 fewer turnovers than, while only playing 5 fewer minutes than our “best player”?

I’m totally fine with throwing Bras right back on that bench and starting Mayfield.

13-2!!! First time since our swan song in the Metro back in 1994-95!!

GO NINERS!!! ;D

Huh

Didn’t you just say we should bench Henry, despite him being the player of the game?
Well the good - We won, shot pretty well, solid games from Evic and Clark.

And the bad - Dear god we run a shitty fast break. Rebounding was a problem. We gave some very solid looks beyond the arc, however some of the shots they got open were deep 3s so I am ok with some of the open looks they got. Missed layups again, sometimes it feels like we are playing for the contact not for the basket, so when the layup goes up and no call is made we looks stupid. We need to make the layup and take the calls as they come. Bras - wow, he has seriously started regressing. I have no idea what is going on there.
When you say “missing lay ups,” I assume you mean missing shots within 3 feet of the basket in traffic, not the dreaded missed lay ups in fast break when no one is within 15 ft of you. Not meant to be sarcastic, but tabs into my point.

I think Clark played well because he kept fighting, because overall I felt like he struggled for the first 2/3rds of the game. He struggles with his back to the basket, taller defenders have been eating him up. When he does make a move with his back to the basket, a) he gets blocked or b) he misses because he tries to avoid being blocked. He began to figure out how to get the ball in a position to where he had the defender sealed off from the start (or cutting to the basket), giving an open lane so he can explode to the basket. As much as he struggled, he really made up for it in the last 1/3rd of the game. He had a pretty hook in the second half though!! If he can hit that consistently, players will respect it and I think it’ll help his post-move development. He can’t push guys around like he did in high school.

As for the other missed lay ups: No one stuck out, so feel free to correct me, but Braswell was the only one that seemed to struggle to finish. DeMario and Willie seemed fine from what I remember, but Braswell seems to be in a funk. Doesn’t seem like a physical problem, but a “head game.” Hopefully it’s just a slump that he can fight through, and if it takes a little longer, the team rallies around him and finds a way to get the W.

Side note: even though he couldn’t finish, I loved the baseline drive by E Vic. Heard in warm ups he was draining almost every 3 he took. If he’s going to be one of our main 3 point options, getting to the hoop off the dribble will really elevate his game. Just hitting 3’s will cause defenders to play up on him all game. If he can blow by them (and he has the quickness), it’ll be a match up nightmare.

Clark had nine points at half time. Was one of the reasons we pulled away late in the first half. He his last score (a free throw) was with over 12 minutes left in the game. Not sure where your getting he played his best in the last 1/3rd of the game.

For all this talk of winning despite Braswell, just remember his merely being on the court completely changes the way teams defend us, opening things up for other guys.

I’m not ready to give him the Phil Jones/Martin Iti/EVN (last year)/Basden (first two years)/etc. treatment. Let me clarify that, I’m not ever going to be ready to do that.
