The perimeter and inside defense were both bad tonight. As Price said in the postgame, many of Louisiana Techās inside points were from guards driving to the basket unimpeded.
Ogbueze had a good game with 26 points and 7 three pointers. Davis was subpar but still filled up the stat line.
Kudos for the undersized Vanhook getting 13 rebounds.
None of the other guys did much. Hudson Price is turnover prone at the end of close games. He put the final nail in the coffin tonight and may have cost us the Western Kentucky game with a late turnover.
It is still concerning that the team starts flat and then does the same thing to begin the second half. We arenāt good enough to coast against anyone.
Congratulations to the team for closing a 23 point lead to 1 point, and holding McCree (2) to 8 points and 5 RBs, which is about 1/2 his average. Too bad you canāt recognize a 1-3-1 zone and understand that there is no room in the middle for you to take the ball.
Our team looks like it came from the Island of Misfit Toys. Vanhook, our 6ā4" forward grabs 13 rebounds, and our four 6ā7" players combine for 1 (Ajukwa, Garvin, Price, Aube). Our Senior leader (Ogbueze) who hasnāt hit a three since Thanksgiving loses his starting spot and comes off the bench to hit 7 of 10, for a total of 26 points. Davis, our best FT shooter has the only miss tonight as we go 15-16 for 94%.
Fun coming back from down 20+ Points in the middle of the 2nd half to cut it to 1 with a min to go. But thatās about it. Same old story and team.
Another team that must have found the tree with tall players even though Iāve heard tall players donāt grow on trees.
Down 6 pts with 20 sec left, why is Davis driving for layup? Is he trying to pad his stats?
Halftime fan shooting game, maybe they should give the guy ANY other former player jersey in the storage room besides Dorn who transferred last year.
Halton less than half full again. Man where are the students? Terrible.
Looked like Dornās practice jersey. And to be clear, it wasnāt a giveaway, it was where both student Ft shooters were wearing an former player jersey.

Good god. Thatās even worse⦠inexcusable. Where is the pride? Where is the heart? Where are the Williams and Thomas and Johnson and Maxwell Jerseys?

Iāve always wanted to get some of our old players jerseys. Would love to have a Jobey or a Diego. Yet theyāve never sold em.

No, I think it is easy to know what to make of this team - you diagnosed it perfectly. This is what I tried to say earlier in comparing this team to the Lamont Mack/Charlie Coley team. That team was equally (un)talented, but it had players who clearly fit certain positions. This team is full of undersized forwards, PGs who are really just short SGs, and big men who are really just super tall spot up shooters.
I am proud of the way we fought back. But, man, we have to reload in the off season or its gonna continue to be ugly.
The Jersey thing bothered me, but then I thought, well the students/fans probably donāt realize who that is. Then that went from being upsetting/angry to just being pathetic.
If this is true itās pathetic and a microcosm of what is wrong with this program.
I canāt take it any more. Please tell me this isnāt true. Someoneā¦
I forgot to mention that we are a team that sets very poor, weak picks, but last night Hook rocked Braceyās (#4) world. He may still be shaking off the cobwebs. Hook may not have been player of the game, but without him we lose by 30 every night.
Coley is one of my all time favorite Niners. Itās not always about pure talent for me. But, even so, heād still be fairly talented vs much of this team. We need someone who can block and rebound.
The past 2 years is making me believe more in a system offense and system recruiting (to a certain extent, though you always go for talent) at least to a certain extent. The pieces have to work together. Iām not saying that our players donāt have chemistry, what I mean is everyone seems all out of position and we have glaring holes in what we can do as a team.

ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
I believe selling Jobey or Diegoās jersey would be an NCAA violation. Fake classes, yes. Selling player jerseys, no.
As for them giving that student a Dorn jersey to wear, well, they have a bunch of old jerseys to use for that free throw shooting contest and I think they just pick one at random. Personally, and I never thought about this before, Iām fairly sure we could afford a couple of sizes of Niner jerseys for use without resorting to old player jerseys. Iād might be OK with the NCAA if Dominoās or whoever provided a jersey with their name on it
to promote the product being given to the winning free throw shooter, too; since the participants are regular students and not scholarship athletes.
Before you ask, I did notice the Dorn jersey and I did think it was stupid to use that one, but Iām so used to lack of attention to detail from our people that it really didnāt bother me. Guess my expectations are just managed.
