Rode the LYNX last night from 485 to Bobcats arena.
Couple noticable things: the ticket machines are ridiculously slow (if they are even turned on), half of them were broken. You can easily ride for free because there are no turnstiles or anyone asking to see you proof of purchase (thats always good for maintenance revenue ), surely they are going to make everyone buy tickets to board?? The scary types are linger around the stations. An undercover cop on my train told me already the trains have “slammed on their brakes” several times throwing everyone to the floor because of cars not stopping at tracks and a major accident is waiting to happen.
I truly think this sort of thing is by design. While the automated system keeps costs down, it also makes it more tempting to get by without paying. Regardless if you buy a ticket or not the rail is going to run on the same schedule, same amount of times per day, etc. Each customer pays $1.30, but if someone is caught without a ticket the fine is $50. That is equivalent to 38 paying customers. If they set up sting operations every now and then, especially once the full system is operational, they are going to make a killing off of tickets that wouldn’t be available with a much more regulated ticket system.
Well, I hope you train lovers are happy.
I forgot my ticket, so I had to go home. I left home in Pineville at 6:35, & decided to be open-minded towards the LYNX. I got there at 6:40. I had been told a train leaves every 7 1/2 minutes, so I sat down & waited. And waited. And waited. And waited.
By the time it left, I looked at the clock, & it was 7. I had waited 20 damn minutes to leave. And 7 is when the game starts.
I thought maybe we were on the fast shuttle due to it being game night, so I’ll only miss a little bit. There is no shuttle. The Lynx stops at every damn stop.
When I got to the game, 10 minutes of the 1st half had passed.
I should have known not to be open-minded, & give you guys a try.
And it’s built to high. I don’t like heights. And I can imagine it being crowded for the Panthers & Bobcats.
On the way back, I waited, & waited, & waited for a train to get me.
And I’m glad I’m not handicapped. The elevator was down. I guess handicapped people can’t park in handicapped spots on the Ground Floor, but have to drive to the 2nd floor. Otherwise they’d have to drag their body & chair up 2 flights of stairs.
And it’s still not worth $8 billion.
So its light rails fault you can’t remember to put a ticket in your pocket or that you can’t bother to read a schedule? Take responsibility for yourself.
P.S. trains leave every 7.5 minutes during rush hours. And news flash… Trains stop at every stop.
We rode the rail last night and it worked out great. Definitely better than fighting traffic and paying to park downtown. It took less than 20 minutes to get from Tyvola to the stadium. We took our time getting out of the stadium after the game, but there was a train there waiting. It was packed, but we were able to get on.
Someone was saying that they will eventually have little machines that scan your ticket as you get on.

You’re complaining because you don’t know the schedule and thought there would be a “fast shuttle” all the way from Pineville to downtown? Anti-light rail proponents can not be excited you’re on their side.

For regular riders it won’t be that big of a deal what with day passed and week passes.
Light-Rail Opponents would be glad I’m on there side, because I used it in a pinch, & it failed.
If it can’t work in a pinch, it doesn’t work. If I had drove, I’d have been on time. That’s the point.
And how can you not have an express shuttle on game nights. That’s just common sense.

Maybe because it would have to crash through the other trains that are moving on the track? Express is for busses.

So you are saying that the Light Rail should change its service for at most 1.5% of the City’s entire population? (if everyone that went to the game took the light rail)
I didn’t say they had an emergency.
I said for $8 Billion, I can expect the damn moon!
And yes, I shouldn’t have forgot my ticket, but if I had used my car, I would have been on time. The whole point of mass transit is to be faster than my car.
Y’all can’t handle the fact that your toy isn’t what it was cracked up to be.

That’s not really the point of it, but it is definitely faster during rush hours. Driving down south blvd any time during the day is awful.
