Simply not worth it.
Small high cost privates without elite or very high quality instruction simply don’t offer much in today’s ultra high cost world.
Why would you pay that when you can go to community college for 2 years and get just as good instruction at a fraction of the cost, then transfer if you want to get a 4 year degree.
Online only? Just shut it down. Online sucks ass. A class or two hear and there I can roll with it but a complete degree on line I find to be unconvincing.
I wish I could shake all the people I know who are going to for profit online schools and tell them they are messing up. For profit online degrees are basically less than worthless in the job market.
Apologies to those who have loved ones going that route. But it’s a mistake.
When I see resumes with for profit online schools I basically mark that as something that has to be overcome by the candidates other qualities.
So many people are being taken for a ride by those companies (won’t call them schools).
Go to community college and then the closest/best state university you can get into. Schools that actually hold in person classes. That’s the way.
I work with a lot of UNC system grads from various institutions. There is a trend to those that graduated from those institutions. Good work ethic, analytical skills, the ability to learn quickly and effectively, good communication skills and critical thinking. There is such value in going to real college and completing a degree. A real degree. Even if you don’t go into the field you studied for you learned to learn. You put your nose to the grindstone and finished something. It feels like our society is losing that. Between ridiculous costs and the rise of online schools offering shortcuts (get your bachelors in 2 years and your masters in one!!) the system that has served us well is failing.
And don’t get me started on the lack of vocational training focus in high schools and the lack of respect for vocations. Not every person needs to go to traditional 4 year college. We need robust vocational trade training to have the respect it deserves.
As far as the enrollment cliff goes.
We know that elite schools will be fine.
I hope that our position as a quality institution in a large market will allow us to weather the storm.
Would moving to D3 athletics and reducing student fees help us?
Would that work financially?
I really shouldn’t post when I’m in a bad mood.
