Never has a season finale left far more questions that it answered, WTF. This is the first epi that I have watched live in a long time and I have never seen so many F’ing commercials in my life. The actual show couldn’t have been more than 60 minutes.
A few random thoughts:
Who are the people on the boat??? Are they descendants from the wrecked pirate ship??? Are they Aliens?? Why do those people seem to be so much stronger than the plane people??? Do they have some special training they’ve gone through?? Are they on steriods???
Claire- How pathetic are you that you let a 70 year old FRENCH woman that your baby???(Did anyone else find themself talking back to the TV everytime she spoke saying “Did the Dingo eat your baby??” I find her character getting more and more annoying, she is almost as annoying as…
Charlie- What a pathetic loser!!! I love his I’m a huge p**** trying to be a tough guy routine. “Claire I will protect you no matter what, now let me go find Saheed while I leave you alone with the crazy french women” Give me a F’ing break!!!
They show is really taking a supernatural turn and the jury is out whether this is a good thing or bad thing. I know alot of people on the board watch any I am curious what others think.

   I've been doing that all season.
My random thoughts:
Yes I thought the 2 hour finale (actually more like an hour and fifteen minutes… thank goodness fro dvrs) would finally answer some questions… about the “others,” the hatch, the monster, the polar bear, the numbers, etc. But nope… it actually created more questions (the people on the boat).
I’m not sure who the people on the boat were, maybe the other survivors from the French woman’s boat?
The polar bear from one of the first episodes has to come back into play somehow. (I noticed the comic book Herley was reading on the plane had a giant polar bear on it too.)
It was pretty cool when Arzt got blown up… he was annoying.
Hurley is cool.
I think we all knew Charlie would eventually find the heroin from teh crashed plane.
I can’t wait for the next season… when does it start?
Personally, I think it’s the best show to come along in a long time. I’ve been on board since day 1 but I was telling a coworker this morning that I hope it doesn’t get TOO “supernatural” or “out there.” I still believe that we’re led to believe that’s the case more than it actually is though.
The people on the boat were “the others” and if you paid close attention, you would have noticed that one of them was actually the French lady’s daughter, Alex. She’s the one that threw the fire bomb on the boat as well. And yes, they were there from the pirate ship (Black Rock).
Not sure what to make of the “floating monster” thingy. That’s the part that borders on hokey for me and I’m hoping that it’s explained, scientifically instead of it being supernatural. The writers are great so I don’t think they will go too sci-fi with the show but then again, isn’t the guy who does Lost the same one that did the X-Files??
I love the show and despite seeing all the episodes, I’m looking forward to watching all the reruns because there are a TON of little signs all along the way that play a big role but yet were easily overlooked.
As for the hatch, it’s directly connected to the “security system” (monster). And when you see the footsteps from it chasing the characters, those aren’t really coming from top to bottom but instead, from underneat the ground. So whatever the hell that thing is, there will be a direct link to it via the hatch/shaft. Both Walt and Hugo knew the hatch was evil and not to be openend but apparently, Locke is functioning on blind faith at this point.
But yes, last night answered a few questions but left many more unanswered. I do recommend watching the rerun season of it if you didn’t get on board. If nothing else, it’s very creative and original compared to most of the garbage on TV these days.
Yep, great show. I’ve seen most of it. JCL gives some good insight into the unknown. The impact of the dynamite in the hole showed how their security system/monster worked. I hadn’t thought of the shaft being the gateway to it. Definitely “the others” out on the boat. They took the boy just like they took the French woman’s baby. Looking forward to next season for sure.
I for one was bummed. No questions were answered.
We don’t know what’s in the hatch, we don’t know what the monster is, we don’t know why polar bears are running around, we don’t know why the little kid is special, we don’t know what Locke saw, and most important, we don’t know where they are.
This show went from awesome to Dawson’s Creek real fast.
Lost will be up against Veronica Mars in the fall and as of right now, Lost will not be watched live in the Tintin household.
On a related note Veronica Mars was the best new show on TV this season.
It should be shown on reruns this summer (Tuesday at 9:00 UPN).

This was the debut season. If they told us the answers to all of those things, another season could be considered pointless. I’m frustrated with so much ambiguity but at the same time, I can’t wait until next season so we can learn more about what’s really going on.
I don’t see how Lost is “original” it’s premise began the same way that the movie Castaway did except this time it was a group of people not just one. Numerous other movies and shows have had people stranded on an island. However I think the ceiling is low for Lost. You can only do so much before it becomes worn out.
I will say they are breaking plenty of new ground with stranded on an island story lines with this show. I do enjoy the flash back story arc and it is neat to see everything tie in like the scenes they shared in the last epi before they knew each other. This is nothing like Castaway or Gilligan, now if next season the Harlem Globetrotters show up, then we have problems.
They have left things wide open as far as story angles go, they can pretty much go anywhere and that will keep me watching, but some of the characters are getting extremely annoying( Charlie and Claire).

Tintin, I agree completely, Veronica Mars is EXCELLENT. My other half considers it a teenager show and never gave it half a chance. It’s really, really good. Thank goodness for DVR!!

Has to be Duncan, don’t you think??? [/b][/quote]
Did you not see the Veronica Mars finale? Best hour of TV I’ve seen all year.
You are exactly right. It’s not a teen-ager show.
Well written, well acted, great twists, every episode exists to tell a story while at the same time revealing hints about the murder, and the best part, they told you what you wanted to know (who was the killer) while at the same time leaving a cliffhanger for next season.
and by the way, it wasn’t Duncan.
If you want more details PM me.

The initial premise of being stranded on an island certainly isn't original but very little, if anything else, is. I could be wrong but I'm guessing you haven't seen every episode from start to finish. If so, then I just don't see how you feel it's like anything else ever done both on TV and the big screen. Castaway never once crossed my mind at any point this season while watching Lost.
To each their own though. There are plenty of really popular shows that I just can’t get into either, regardless of the reasons. Thank goodness for variety.
This show is great, I really didn’t expect any answers to come from the finale since this is only the first season. This is the one show that I make sure to sit down and watch on a weekly basis, whereas I may record other shows and watch them later.
The polar bear has been killed, at least one of them was. It came about after the boy (Walt) was reading the comic, which turns out to have belonged to Hurley. I have a feeling that Walt will cause some problems with those men that took him.
JCL, how do you know the french woman’s daughter was the one on the boat? Nothing has been said if it was a boy or a girl unless I"m missing something.
I’ve read a theory that says the “monster” could be nano-technology, ala Michael Creighton’s book called Prey (excellent book). They say that the nano-technology is what is allowing Locke to walk. Apparrently a similar story has happened in the X-Men comic book series, nano’s allowing Prof. X to walk. I find it an interesting theory considering Michael was wondering how all those islands have not been discovered. Possibly a secret site like Jurassic Park where nano-technology labs are being used. Just a theory though.

Hate to butt in.... Prey is an ok book. I would hesitate to call it excellent, especially since he took the EXACT same story arc from one of his previous books (Andromeda Strain), and changed it to hi-tech nanotechnology. To an extent Jurrasic Park and Sphere were the same way. That said I enjoyed them all... unfortunately each one lesser than the one before.
I wonder if they will replay the Lost season 1, over the summer? I wish I had caught all the episodes now. season 2 (dubbed “Still Lost”) should be another winner.
