This would be a huge land. Cothron is the 11th ranked PF, and 45th ranked player overall in his class.
We have PF minutes available after Phil and Spears leave this year.
Itād be nice to land Cothron and Nickerson this week.
Iād feel VERY good about our future.
Would he have to sit and pay his way like Phil did?
If so that would be ideal for us IMO as we are set at PF compared to other positions. Cothron, Thorne, and Nickerson would be huge for the program especially if we can keep Terrence Williams in Charlotte.

No. I believe even if we take Dew back, we still have an open scholarship spot.

So would Cothron be ineligible for us this season? Was he an NCAA non-qualifier or an SEC/Auburn non-qualifier? Iām not exactly thrilled with us being the landing spot for a non-qualifier because itās bad for perception, but not as bad for perception as being mediocre is.
According to the kid that runs therecruitscoop.com, UTEP leads.
Yes. As has been noted in the A-10 recruiting threads, exact same situation as with Cady Lalanne when he didnāt qualify at Georgia. Lalanne will sit out this season, canāt practice with the team, and will pay his own way at UMass before being given a scholarship for 2011-12.
According to the kid who broke the story, Cothron would be eligible for a scholarship in 2010 for UTEP. But itās a moot point, since the Umass board is saying that Luke has bid āArrivederciā to the US in his facebook page and will turn pro.
Donāt see any difference between the situations for Cothron and Lalanne - both non-qualifiers for SEC schools. Also donāt understand how the former thought he might land a spot at UMass since the Minutemen are already dealing with ānumberā issues for next season (DK learned his ālessonsā well from Calipari!). But as you point out, itās a moot point now with Cothron headed to Italy. I suspect Sidney Lowe is breathing a sigh of relief on this one!
If he came here and had to pay tuition, at least it would In-State for him.
Did Cothron change his legal residence from Alabama to North Carolina while he was playing at FMA?

Ah, didnāt even think about that. Prob in Alabama, good call.
several tweets about Cothran going to Italy, good luck kid.
the recruits scoops twitter just said that according to his high school coach he will be in college this year.
i cant believe that no one cares that this kid actually appears to be suiting up in college next year instead of going overseas.

Maybe Haiku will log on and write something about him.
His coach said he would be in college next year. Iām not sure what the odds are he will be in a Niner uniform, but my gut tells me not to expect it on this one.
Being in college and playing are not the same thing. Justin Coleman and Cady Lalanne, like Cothron, were non-qualifiers and will be sitting out this season and all that goes with that (canāt practice with team, no scholarship, etc.). Iām still waiting to read what makes Cothronās situation different that heād be allowed to play now.
