Luke Cothron

Going to UMASS

Pretty funny when it gets announced on NN.N before it does on UMassHoops.com! Wonder if he has to sit out this season will Lalanne? Will be checking Vautour’s blog for more info.

Jacey Zembal, a NCSU writer tweeted it.

My gut says UMASS is close to being on the wrong side of the NCAA. Just a feeling.

Looking at UMass’ roster for 2010-11 and they have 13 players - 12 on scholarship and a walk-on (who used to be on scholarship, but that’s another story). Jesse Morgan is supposed to be eligible after fall semester, so there’s the 13th and final schollie for this season.

OK, this is where it gets good. There are 3 seniors on this year’s team. 13-3 = 10. There were already 3 commitments for 2011-12 prior to Cothron reportedly being accepted by DK & Co. 10+3 = 13. Something just doesn’t add up!!!

If UMass can work the numbers correctly, they’ll be a loaded team next season. Kellogg sure can bring in the talent.

FWIW, I had forgotten about the 7-footer DK took on this season as a walk-on. Pretty sure he’s been told he could earn a schollie down the road.

Anyway, DK definitely bringing in the talent. The bigger question is whether or not he can coach it to any success.

agree with both points.

If I may share a relevant quotation from the 1983 Hollywood motion picture, “Risky Business”:

“Joel, sometimes you’ve just got to say, ‘what the fuck’, make your move. Saying ‘what the fuck’ brings freedom. Freedom brings opportunity. Opportunity makes your future.”

I don’t remember too many other details about that movie, but I’m pretty sure there were no problems and they all lived happily ever after. The End.

Rationalization is a beautiful thing.

Only problem is your program is not in Hollywood and this is not a Tom Cruise movie.

Keep on saying what the f*** and see how much freedom it brings you.

I will give you one thing your Coach learned from the best. Of course he will be long gone with the opportunity you speak of when the s*** hits the fan.

You guys know the drill though …right…

Vautour finally chimes in and Cothron will have to sit out 2010-11 if he’s admitted into UMass.

BTW, guess it didn’t hurt that Auburn’s coach, Tony Barbee, played at UMass. Gotta think that he influenced Cothron’s decision to head to Amherst.

Luke left Umass 2 weeks ago, not sure why. I have no idea if we are going after him, but he may be looking to move back closer to home.

Actually, he’s still in Amherst. From Vautour’s blog this past Monday:

Luke Cothron did not go home this weekend. This seems like a good thing as everyone seemed concerned that he was going to back to Alabama and not return. Until he returns in January and then next September, there are going to be question marks, but for now that seems like good news.

I had read the rumors about him leaving school - a la Tashawn Mabry - but waited until there was confirmation and turns out the rumor was wrong.

2k just got told.

So 2k was just told that Cothron has been gone for 2 weeks, while UMass beatwriter Matt Vautour reported on Monday that Cothron is still at UMass. Hmmm…

I got that info on Twitter, so not hurting my feelings. Just thought I’d share the knowledge.

2k knows I’m just funning with him.

Actually not trying to show 2k up at all. The rumors about Cothron have been swirling around for a while now, so who knows if he’ll actually ever suit up for UMass. Right now I’d say the odds are no better than 50/50.
