Lutz will be on FOX tonight

I’m getting ready to watch some football and I saw a commercial for FOX Got Game and they said that Lutz will be in studio tonight (Sunday). I think the show comes on at 10 or 10:30.

Thanks Bo. I’m sure many of us will check it out. I know I will.

Thanks, Bo. I just checked and Fox Got Game comes on at 10:30pm.

I watched it. Lots of air time for Bobby. He was the special guest of the show, sitting in for the entire show with the two Fox Sports anchors. Bobby got off to a slow start but then got rolling. Talked about the expectations, the players, the conference and the LBSU game.

They took emails in the last segment and both were for him. Brad had a great one. Asked about the ACC being scared to play us. Bobby said they contact them every year…there’s an open invitation.

… soooo Lutz said this ON THE AIR?

Hmmmm. B)

Hasn’t it been 4 years since the last game with an ACC team…NCSU in 2000-2001? The emailer did include the thumping of State in his question.

It must have slipped. According to a certain poster on this board, they do not want that information made public.

BTW NA, thanks for the lead-in.

Well he did pick his words carefully. We all know why they won’t play us. They can get a similar game against a variety of teams that would attract a national audience. Unless we do something compelling, why should they play us when we have other options? Yes I think we would win almost any of the games played in Halton, and depending on the situation maybe some on the road. However, we gotta make them HAVE to play us at risk of losing face. Hopefully we’ll get the dream matchup in the NCAA tournament that accomplishes that, or, make the kind of run that accomplishes that. Until then, they’ll schedule lightweights and Seton Hall.

Yes, he did.

The issue is not that they won’t play us or why they won’t play us. Everyone on this board knows those answers. The point is simple. Many people in Charlotte do not have a clue. They need to be educated about why they will not see such a game. Until then, many of them will continue to perceive us as second fiddle… that is, of course, untill we make 2 or 3 Sweet 16 runs. It’s what I call FAIR, RESPONSIBLE, & INFORMATIVE JOURNALISM. It doesn’t have to be done with finger-pointing methodology. It would be nice if at least the residents of the Charlotte area knew we had/have a team that could “contend” in the ACC. That’s my point.

Just one Sweet 16 appearance would begin to open doors to the “next level”. Look at Marquette. Unfortunately for us, when the ACC started the reallignment domino effect by grabing BC and forcing the Big East to follow suit, we were having a down year. They grabbed Marquette who had just had a Sweet 16 run, and DePaul probably for its access to the lucrative Chicago television market.

One or two deeper runs in the Tournament and we will be meeting quality (possibly ACC) teams on neutral courts in later rounds of pre-season invitationals (or did they outlaw those too now that we have reached that level).

Actually, the BE took marquette and depaul because Notre Dame told them to. Depaul was pretty bad at the time. Both are mid-western, catholic schools...who are traditional ND rivals. We are a public university in the south without football. When the BE realligns and the non-football schools (my bad run) move out, hopefully we'll be included.

Is Cincinnati a football school?

Sorry.

what kinda time frame is this scenario looking at, the BE football schools moving? in my view this is our best chance to become a big time bball program, to get in that conference. much better name brand recognition and schools are well known

If the Big East – oops, BIG EAST – does implode a la the WAC, then the non-football side looks like this:

DePaul
Georgetown
Marquette
Notre Dame
Providence
Seton Hall
St. John’s
Villanova

IMHO, that conference would probably consider schools like Dayton, Saint Louis, and Xavier for expansion before UNCC. And who knows which half will get to retain the BIG EAST name. And I wouldn’t hold my breadth that Notre Dame sticks around, either.

Thought it might be of some interest here. But here is some info posted on another message board:

The Big East agreed to stay together for at least 5 years once the 'NBE' begins. After that, the 1-A football would be allowed split away from the Big East Bball schools with no exit fees and would be allowed to claim their NCAA units (money earned from teams in the tourney).
So basically the timeline on this new Big East is pretty much 5 years (or the 2010-11 season).

Many people, including Lutz from his quotes posted here earlier, are thinking about where we fit in when the BE football schools do split out. Whether or not we would get invited into a new Big East, we have at least 5 years in the A10. But hopefully in 5 years the A10 and Big East non-football teams will be a very comparable set of teams. I could see a merge into a two division conference, if not the new new Big East would definitely look to grab some A10 teams.
