It will be interesting to see if hitches a new job quickly.

If he goes to ECU, he could end up in the Big East in a year or two.

Worked for Seth Greenburg.

I know I have heard that rumor too but I won’t believe it till it happens. I have a hard time seeing the Big East take ECU anytime soon.

2009 Charlotte 49ers: Up Close with Bobby Lutz

Really? Why?

I’m honestly hard pressed to think of another coach being fired (pro or college) in the last two decades, that had to be as emotionally difficult as this one. The fact that we did, technically, have a winning season probably made it that much harder. Bobby is a great guy. He’s a 49er to the bone. He’s replacement will be a hired gun, not a true believer like Bobby, but this had to happen. Probably should have happened last year too, but I can’t imagine a worse professional breakup in recent memory. I hope one day Bobby can come back here and contribute, AGAIN, and in a meaningful way for him. To NinerNation.

Thanks for 15 solid years coach.

No one’s mentioned Gardner-Webb. He could do good things there.

You hate to see a guy who is an alum to a university get fired because you know it’s their dream job. I hope Bobby ends up back with the school somewhere down the road. But since he still wants to coach, he should go coach for Hawaii. I would. That would be a fresh start.

great post. it sounds incredible…and always sad…but sometimes marriages involving two very good people come apart too.

No TV market.

Their football program is solid but I am not convinced it can complete on a weekly basis in the Big East. Their basketball program is not even close to Big East level.

ECU would be a great fit for Bobby…get him back in C-USA, where he can recruit players…not have to rely on JUCO’s or transfers…plus a move to the big east would put him going head to head with Huggie, Patino, where he is over 500 vs. those guys with less talent…WIth talent, Bobby would be dangerous…

I am surprised to be saying this… but…

…good post.

You do realize that the A10 is a better league than CUSA???

Oh, probably not since you think it is 2000

CUSA would be an even tougher sell now than the A10.

ECU football is plenty good enough for the Big East, once they get into the conference and can start recruiting at a higher level (need the t.v. exposure to get better players). There is some question about whether the Big East would remain in the BCS if they lose too many more schools though.

The basketball program is a shambles. But then that really isn’t what is driving these things.

Booby was the head coach at G-W, but never coached a game. He took the job with the understanding that if Charlotte ever called he could go there. Nobody thought it would happen almost immediately. That is how he ended up here as an assistant.

With all the Lutz related post on here, maybe I have missed this, but I am suprised nobody has mentioned UNCW as Bobby’s next destination. I know several of my friends that went there are pretty gung-ho about having him.

There’s another C-USA school that just fired their longtime winningest head coach - UCF.
He’d be stuck in a similar recruiting situation (battling UF, UoM and FSU for recruits) but that is a huge school and I think he’d do well there. Plus, tons of year round golfing.

G’luck to Coach wherever he ends up.

UCF would be a good assignment-> They’ve grown immensly. Have basically a shopping mall on campus. Lot of new sport facilities.
