Mark Gottfried (Former HC at Alabama)

He took a team that was #1 in the country in January that damn near missed the tournament.

No thanks.
If you can take a team to #1 in the country, then you’re doing something right.

Hell, I’d put a ‘night-with-a-goldduster clause’ in anyone’s coaching contract in exchange for a #1 overall ranking.
On the flip side if you take a 9-0 team ranked #1 into January and finish 17-12 you did something very wrong as well.

I’m buddies with a Bama guy, said he has never seen a worse game manager in his life
Exactly, we just fired a coach that turned a 8-1 A10 team to a 9-7 A10 team…

he obviously brings in talent in more ways then one.

A lot of people were saying that also on the espn article comments. Lets pass on this guy.

He would be an outstanding hire. That would be excellent. The guy has proven that he can win.

win AND score!!

Could we please stay on point and quit getting distacted by these ridiculous suggestions. Pat Kelsey is the guy!

Utter confirms that we have had contact with Gottfried. Is he the first confirmed contact?

Edit: Utter’s words were that Gottfried has spoken to Charlotte, so there’s no telling if we initiated the contact or not.

Can recruit but can’t develop players. BTW his top recruit Gerald Wallace ended up leaving after 1 season. Wallace said he didn’t enjoy his time in Tuscaloosa.

Trivia time - who was the AD at South Alabama when Lutz gave serious thought to relegating himself to anonymity in the Sun Belt?

The now-retired Joe Gottfried, father of Mark.

Gottfried should be the #1 target. Younger guy with proven tournament experience. What more do ya’ll want?

um, can we hire him now?

I heard him say in an interview that he didn’t like college life. So, it’s not just Tuscaloosa. As a future NBA player, college might seem pointless.
