Good games by Henry, Thorne and Clayton. Henry was on tonight. A little sloppy at times with the ball but hot on offense.
Twill seemed like he didn’t even play. Didn’t do anything great or bad. He needs to stop driving the baseline and trying to pass through the middle.
Lester, worse game of the year. 0 pts, 5 turnovers. Hopefully he bounces back. He def saw the bench this game. He’s essentially a freshman so hopefully he’ll learn better shot selection, what’s a good shot in the shot clock, and who is under the basket to rebound a possible missed shot. Hopefully he doesn’t feel like he’s too good to be benched like Clark and learn from this game.
Bryan, nothing. Story Of the bench tonight
Cherry, 1 three and clinching ft. I wish he would stop setting up 4 ft behind the 3 pt line. I’m guessing he wants space from the defender but sometimes he is shooting wide open 4 ft behind.
Kind of a weird win. Def wasn’t balanced scoring. Leading score Lester and twill didn’t do much on offense. Lester, Twill, Cherry and Bryan combined for 6 pts. who would have thought we win when that happens. Need to get hot and have luck on our side to have any chance in the tourney.
A win is a win, and we dodged finishing in one of the last 4 spots in the conference. It looks like we have a 9 seed. Not bad for a 16 team conference.
Honestly, the last 2 games we looked more like we used to look. Our inside guys (Clayton and Thorne) have been effective. I don’t think ODU and Marshall were impressive inside, but still…we took advantage.
Happy for them. Thorne was particularly pumped this game. Henry was great as well. I’ll reserve comment on Lester. I have no idea if they have straightened out their heads and the free throw shooting in the last minute will cost us in the tourney if we don’t have a big lead, but glad they got that losing streak over with. Hopefully, they continue this winning streak for a long while.

Glass is half full. It has to be at this point or else I’ll go mad. We have played well in tournaments over the last two years, and we beat the home team on the court we’re going to play at. We’re a tournament team, let’s do this. GO NINERS!!
Perhaps some hope going into El Paso?
Not for me. Brain freeze down the strech. How many times has this happened? I love this team’s heart, most team’s would have packed it in by now in their circumstances. However, several times a game
they do some dopey WTF thing that we can’t blame on youth any more. I can’t figure if Lester needs a sports psychologist or just an old fashioned kick in the ass. T Will is a good player, but makes me nervous each
time he touches the ball. Wait til’ next year!
Turnovers, free throws, closing out a game in the final minute (use your timeouts for Pete’s sake!) Nothing that’s been a problem has been fixed. But… If PH Thorne and Willie can play like that in El Paso maybe we can win some rematch games like tonight. We gotta completely avoid MTSU Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech to have a chance at winning the whole thing though, which won’t happen. And of course we don’t wanna hold winning over our heads smh.
I miss the days when the CUSA Tourney was the Niner Invitational. I’m so ready for a new coach (And it doesn’t feel like we are gonna get one :()

I am certain we will win the tourney and they will name it the Alan Major Invitational.

clt didn’t see this comment before clt made the same joke in another thread. clt is not attempting to post derivative comments on this board. clt says good day.
That is TOTAL GARBAGE. A ninth seed in this horrible conference should get any coach fired. It would be a HUGE surprise to see 2 teams in CUSA get into the NCAA tournament. Our RPI is 160 and our strength of schedule is 187. AND we have lost to a host of 150+ RPI teams this year. Now really tell me where this is “not bad.” It is amazing how low our expectations have gotten in the past ten years.

AMEN. If we keep lowering the bar we will never be relevant again. If we are perennially middle of the pack CUSA we might as well be USC Upstate.

Being happy with a win last night is not an endorsement of the entire season’s results.
I am happy we won an away game last night for the first time in over a month. I am happy we have won back to back games in as long.
Much better to hit El Paso with some momentum.
I also thought we played much closer to our potential last night until we failed to close out the game. That should have been a 9-11 pt win (on the road no less), but we bungled the final margin with TOs and missed front ends. Clean those two things up some and its a comfortable W reminiscent of early in the season. Thorne and Clayton have had back to back good games. Now we need Lester to get out of his funk.
