Strengths: An intelligent wing player, Madigan is a sweet shooting lefty. He's able to get his shot off the catch and does a good job with his shot preparation. Can take a dribble (mainly to his left) and get off his jump shot. Like that he has the courage to step up and take the big shots and willingness to take over as needed. Plays for an excellent high school coach that has cultivated players. The strength of his game is behind the line but he's cerebral and shows signs of having the ability to pass the ball when driving lanes close down.

Weaknesses:
Madigan has a tendency to play upright and needs to become a better player laterally and with his overall quickness. Would like to see him cultivate more of a mid-range game, become a more confident handler and most of all, get in the weight room and add strength.

Bottom Line:
This young man is an outstanding student (above a 4.0) and values winning. He’s receiving excellent advice and coaching. Our guess is that he tracks as a very good mid-level scoring option as a perimeter player. Academic schools will evaluate and recruit him. His stroke is the real deal and he’s a team guy.

RT @Justinbyerly: Matthew Madigan & Winston-Salem (NC) Mt. Tabor, will have Charlotte in on Wednesday for a look.

Tabor, Madigan will be transferring to play for him this coming school year. The southpaw is known for his ability to put points on the scoreboard and he didn’t disappoint at the NC Phenom 150. He does have a “sneaky” athleticism with his hops, but the biggest attribute for Madigan is his fundamentals and high basketball IQ. He simply knows how to play the game the right way. In addition, he plays extremely hard and doesn’t take plays off and should be a priority for schools in the Big South or Southern Conference. He is also an excellent student.

The Irish slurs that probably get hurled his way… my God.

Tagging a kid with high basketball IQ is like saying a chick has a great personality… it’s also a 99.2% chance the dude is going to be white.

now THAT is racist!

It’s also accurate.
